I saw this and thought it would be cool to share....Boriquita

My friend's midwife was passing out little cards this year at our

local homeschool conference -- they said this:

" I noticed you breastfeeding your baby and I wanted to say " Thank

You " . It may not seem like a big deal to you, but, the simple act of

nursing your baby in public is making an impression on those around

you. It may help change someone's view of breastfeeding in public

areas, or empower another mom to come out of the bathroom stall to

breastfeed her baby more comfortably.

God Bless,

her name

Let's start doing this -- it would be so easy to print up some cards

(we could tweak the wording to make it personal)and pass them out to

nursing mamas. WE can make it a " National Breastfeeding Support "

thing! What do you think???

In my community it feels like there are less and less b/feeding

amams. You look around the park and other places and there are bottle

fed babies everywhere recently. Two weeks ago there was mama who was

nursing UNDER A BLANKET in the mall's food court and was asked to

leave by a security gaurd. she was on the local news nursing her baby

while she told her story! :0) It was pretty big deal here.

If someone wants to post this post on the b'feeding board here on

vegsource you have my permission. I can not pull up the b/feeding

board or the naturopathy board anymore.

And any other b/feeding support site -- let's get this going all

over!!!

Blessings,

Kristi

My son is adopted. He may have been one of those bottle-feeding babies you

refer to. Keep in mind that breastfeeding is not an option for everyone.

My girls are also adopted. I would have loved to have breast fed Mariah that we

got at two months old. But we took both our girls in as foster children, and

then adopted them later on once birth parents rights were severed (which took a

very long time). It just was not an option for us either.

I'm with you , Terry. I wasn't able to bf any of my children. I tried and for

various reasons they couldn't do it. Thank goodness for formula or they might

have died. I don't like being made to feel that I did less than what I should

have done for my children.

I didn't write this message, I copy and pasted it. Is not meant to

offend anyone. I feel that more people would breastfeed if they had

more information and encouragement. Is not about recruiting, or or

hating bottle feeders. Is about encouraging those women that choose to

breastfeed to continue doing it as long as we please, is only natural.

Also, just because someone is adopted does not mean that the adoptive

mother cannot breastfeed. There is tons of information out there for

adoptive moms to breastfeed.

I was not speaking for anyone but me and my son, and our circumstances made

breastfeeding impossible. Of course I am aware that some adoptive mothers are

able to stimulate lactation, and others use an apparatus that allows the infant

to simulate the process of breastfeeding. Again, neither of these methods was

possible for us, and in fact I'd be curious to see the statistics on just how

many adoptive mothers actually manage to accomplish this successfully to the

point where no additional bottle feeding is necessary. All I ask is that those

who strongly advocate breastfeeding refrain from making comments that can be

interpreted as judgmental by those who were unable to or chose not to

breastfeed, for whatever reason. As someone said very well, it's a personal and

private decision.

FYI-the person who is going to make and hand out the BF cards is NOT the

same heather that is the breastfeeding mom of three that think people

should tend to their own business.....

lord knows, we all have enough issues in our own life to deal with rather

than taking up other people's very personal lives!

I don't think anything was directed negatively at bottle fed infants.

Just my .02 cents.

Thanks for mentioning this. I have a friend/neighbor who has

successfully breastfed an adopted child.

Sorry that you are so offended and are worried about clearing that up. I do

mind my own business but there are many breastfeeding moms that welcome that

support to know they are not alone.
