Guest guest
Hi there! I am a veggie mama to a veggie 5 year old. He made his own decision at 3.5 to not eat meat. I am hoping to be active here and hopfully gain insight. I do have an intro. ???. My son is starting Kinder and I have to send lunch. Any ideas on non-reheatable lunches, esp. protein. Sometimes he will eat hard boiled eggs and hummus. He of course loves Pb & j, but because of allergies cannot bring it. Thanks for your advice and I look forward to chattin; Peace, Carrie and Gabriel
Guest guest
I cut smartdogs in half and bake in dough. Put them in the fridge overnight and she eats about 3-4 half veggie dogs for lunch the next day. Also she is eating yves deli slices (only the bologna or turkey versions) in whole wheat pita bread with a little ketchup. MOSTLY I fix her hummus in pita bread with a just a little bit of veggies like broccoli that I have broken the florets up really small or shredded carrots. These are her main sandwiches - I give her hummus about every other day and on alternate days I try to vary it up with the veggie dogs and deli sandwiches. Then I give her two servings of fruit - a banana, an apple or put some grapes in a small sandwich bag, or fruit cups like pineapple or peaches. Then I try to give her some other snack like raisins, graham crackers, or animal crackers to have during snack time at school. I pack her two juice boxes - one for lunch and one for snack time. She doesn't like boxed soymilk for some reason so she drinks soy milk (the refrigerated kind) at home with breakfast and dinner. The rest of the time she has to drink water. Guest guest
My daughter also prefers the " turkey " over the " bologna " kind. our stores here seem to keep it in the produce section for some reason. They kind we get are called Deli slices. Good Luck! Guest guest
Have you ever tried Sunbutter? It tastes amazingly like PB, but it's made with sunflower seeds instead. I actually made some Sunbutter cookies for a party, and everyone thought they were peanut butter cookies. Although, I suppose you may have to assure the school that it isn't peanut butter in your boy's sandwich....I dunno. Somewhat amusing....the first time I sent a strawberry jam sandwich to school with my son (he's allergic to peanuts, so he has to sit apart from the kids who have PB & J), a teacher rushed over to make sure he wasn't about to eat PB, and he said, " It's okay, my mom knows I'm allergic to peanuts. Guest guest
That's really funny Maria. I have sent soynut butter with my kids and I usually send a note at the first of the year explaining what it is and that it doesn't have any connection to peanuts. I.M. Healthy Soynut butter is very tasty and also bakes well. Jacqueline http://adhdnme.blogspot.com On Behalf Of Maria Rasmussen August 31, 2005 12:51 PM Re: Hi there all Have you ever tried Sunbutter? Guest guest
How about tofu salad sandwiches. Mash tofu and mix with salt, pepper, nutritional yeast and a little mayo. Serve like tuna. Guest guest
Oh, I used to do the same thing! I'd write " soy butter -- no peanuts " on the baggie with a marker. I did this for several weeks until the teachers knew enough to stop worrying about it. - " Jacq " <jacqcote Thursday, September 01, 2005 10:22 AM RE: Hi there all > That's really funny Maria.
