Guest guest
While the circumstances around this story (zoo, Boca) may be touchy, I thought the main point was good enough to relate it. Awhile ago, I took my daughter to the zoo. Normally we'd pack a lunch, but for whatever reason, we didn't that day. The restaurant had two options: adult burgers that can be replaced with Boca, and cute kids meal boxes that can't. I asked if they would substitute - no. I asked if I could pay extra for the burger - no. I asked if they'd sell me an empty kids meal and a boca burger - no. So I wrote a letter to the zoo and said, hey, we just spent a day looking at your neat farm exhibit where you talk about being all nice to animals and how great they are and never mention eating them - and then, the only thing you offer for CHILDREN to eat is those nice cows they just spent all morning petting. Today, my daughter was invited on another zoo outing, and what do you know - they offer Boca kids meals now. So I've decided that yes, it is worth it to write when companies are being willfully non-accomodating. Now, who to pester next? -kt
Guest guest
Good job! I think the only vegetarian offering our zoo has is a snow cone. They did revamp all of the food places since last time I was there though, so who knows? -Lisa Catharin Meadors <bokodasu wrote: While the circumstances around this story (zoo, Boca) may be touchy, I thought the main point was good enough to relate it. Guest guest
That's a great story, not just for us as adults, but for our kids too. I think its important for our kids to know that one small voice can have an impact. On a slightly different note, there seems to be much better access to veg/vegan options in public forums lately. In the small Adirondack town where we spend the summer, there are two ice cream shops, one big restaurant, and a mom & pop type grocery store (and not a whole lot more.) My 13 year old had gone into one of the ice cream stores and asked if they have soy ice cream last year. They didn't. This year she checked again, personally I wouldn't have bothered. I really thought this small town is the last place non dairy ice cream would come to. Imagine our surprise when she discovered they carried not just one but TWO flavors of soy ice cream!! More importantly, it was always available, not just words on a sign (have you ever experienced something being on the menu but never actually in the restaurant??) Interestingly enough, we discovered the second ice cream shop had non dairy optoins as well, the restaurant has added a vegetarian entree (its just veggies over pasta but its acknowledging there is a need/desire for such a thing), and the grocery store had increased its veg options too. I can onlyt assume its due to people expressing their beliefs and desires politely yet firmly, as you did. Kudos to you, you made it easier for someone else. I think its an exciting time to be veg.
