Guest guest
My 4-year old will have his first birthday party in a couple of weeks. I plan on having a simple menu with vegan carob cupcakes, tortilla chips, graham crackers, fruit, and veggies and wanted to provide some vegan/sugarless dips for the veggies and/or chips. Does anyone have any recipes for dips? Thanks!
Guest guest
Good luck planning your party. Sending you wishes for a great time. Store bought mild salsa, hommus, and vegan ranch dressing or other salad dressings are probably crowed pleasers, sugarless, and easy. Magic can be made with some Silken Tofu, a food processor, and some imagination, if you feel like making your own dips. I would blend some silken tofu or vegenaise (kinda high in sodium but tasty) with a really flavorful herb-spice-packed salad dressing for a dip for vegetables. I just found a good vegan sour cream that would be a good base for such things too. Fennel, lemon juice, sauteed onion, garlic, parsley - these are all perfect for adding to sour cream for a dip. I made the following Fruit Dip (to dip fruit into)for a get-together, and it went over really well... Blend all ingredients in a food processor until silky smooth 1/2 package Silken Tofu 10 organic strawberries* 1 handful organic blueberries* 1 very ripe banana 2 teaspoons wheat germ 3 shakes of powdered vanilla extract 1 tablespoon vegan unsweetened cocoa powder -Add enough agave nectar to taste, and/or you could use canned pineapple or thawed apple juice concentrate to sweeten -Optionally thicken with instant brown rice baby cereal (very versitile stuff), or if you have it on hand, some unsweetened powdered protein shake mix (expensive). * thawed frozen berries are great for this recipe * more berries can be added to intensify the color and flavor * blueberries mixed with strawberries can make a funny color (grayish), so use raspberries instead if you want a prettier color. ....So, it is basically a thick fruit smoothie without the ice. Sorry, it isn't really sugar free, but agave (my sweetener of choice) has a low glycemic index so you won't have a bunch of sugar charged kids running through your house. It is vegan and safe for diabetics. By the way, do you have sugar free graham crackers? I would love to get my hands on some of those! , " admartin " <admartin@e...> wrote: > My 4-year old will have his first birthday party in a couple of weeks. Guest guest
I use hummas and guacamole - always go well with kids. I also have a spinach dip recipe that is extremely yummy - teenagers love it but I don't know about little kids - here is the recipe though - 12ou soft silken tofu 1/2 cup vegan mayo 1 package of onion soup mix - check labels 1-2 cloves of garlic mix in a blender until smooth add 12 ou.defrosted frozen spinach - squeeze all the water out - blend again until mixed 1/4 cup or to taste scallions - blend in lightley with spoon refridgerate for about 3 hours - for flavors to blend Pour into a sourdough round that has had the inside bread removed - use the bread for dipping- or just pour into a bowl for crackers. admartin <admartin wrote: My 4-year old will have his first birthday party in a couple of weeks.
