Guest guest
Hi, I got these from another list I belong to. I use the powdered one at the bottom. It works really well and is very inexpensive to make. I've always assumed it was veg. Homemade Laundry Soap: 3 Pints Water 1/3 Bar Fels Naptha Soap, Grated (Ivory works, too, but FN is made for laundry and works best) 1/2 Cup Washing Soda (not baking soda!) 1/2 Cup Borax 2 Gallon Bucket 1 Quart Hot Water Hot Water Mix Fels Naptha soap in a saucepan with 3 pints of water, and heat on low until dissolved. Stir in Washing Soda and Borax. Stir until thickened, and remove from heat. Add 1 Quart Hot Water to 2 Gallon Bucket. Add soap mixture, and mix well. Fill bucket with hot water, and mix well. Set aside for 24 hours, or until mixture thickens. Finished product will be gel-like. Use 1/2 cup of mixture per load. Washing Soda can be found on the laundry detergent aisle of your supermarket. It comes in a 55-ounce yellow box. Baking soda SHOULD NOT be used in place of washing soda. Powdered Laundry Soap: 1 Cup Grated Fels Naptha Soap (again Ivory works, too) 1/2 Cup Washing Soda 1/2 Cup Borax For light load, use 1 tablespoon. For heavy or heavily soiled load, use 2 tablespoons. Guest guest
Hi Manisha, Here's what I found after poking around a bit. FELS NAPTHA INGREDIENTS: Cleaners, soil and stain removers, chelating agents, colorants, perfume. Here's a link that goes into a little more detail about the ingredients. http://www.dld123.com/q & a/qandatemp.php?id=Q61 I hadn't realized that it was petroleum based. I'm going to be looking for some alternatives I think.
