Guest guest
Well, I just learned that after 10 years of providing sanctuary to rescued farm animals, the Oohmahnee Farm Animal Sanctuary in Pennsylvania is closing it's doors due to financial hardship. My family had just begun volunteering here and it was such a wonderful caring place that I am so so sad to hear that it will no longer be around. Fortunately at least, they have found homes for all of their current residents. Anyway, I just wanted to share. Rachael

Guest guest
How sad, indeed. Glad to hear that the animals are safe. What will become of the 236 acres? Wouldn't it be wonderful if someone could reopen the sanctuary? Wish it could be my family to do it, but $$$. My husband's family lives in Butler, PA, and we sometimes entertain the notion of moving close to them (land is much more affordable there than here in the DC area) and establishing an animal sanctuary. Blessings and comfort to the owners, employees and volunteers who will miss the farm. Guest guest
That¹s awful news. I love Oohmahnee and we¹ve been making a tradition out of going there every year (we live in Chicago). I emailed Cayce Mell (one of the co-founders and a friend of mine) and am waiting to hear back. I know she just had another child so I wonder if that factored in at all. Anyway, I agree that it is a sad day for the animals (and my family).
