Guest guest
Hi all, This December I'll be taking my toddler to see Thomas the Tank Engine near Lancaster, PA (Straussburg <sp?> railroad museum), and am wondering if anyone knows of any particularly veg friendly restaraunts around those parts. We'll be spending one night, and I'll be booking a hotel room with a kitchen. In case I need to shop, are there any health food stores or organic markets nearby? We usually travel with coolers full of food, but I would like to go easy on myself this time. Thanks, Nikki
Guest guest
Nikki, Here's a possibility: Hershey Farm ... http://www.americanmusictheatre.com/pages/LancBest.html They have a buffet and you can get a discount if you just go with the veggies. It's not stated on the menu that way, but when I asked they just told me the price and acted like it was no big deal. If you are going for vegan, you'll have a hard time avoiding the butter unless you stick to salad items. Outside of that, I'm pretty sure we got veggie burgers at Friendly's in Lancaster. Not sure if those were vegan either. From our previous thread ... Several folks suggested I give the Mozzarela FYH cheese a try, but I'll await your verdict first. When I tried the other flavors of FYH cheese, I did things like put slices on veggie deli sandwiches or crackers, grated it on top of tacos, and melted it on top of a caserole. Although it sliced, grated, and melted nicely, each time I thought whatever I was eating tasted better without it, and it didn't add much nutrition, either. Honestly, I'm getting over the whole cheese addiction from my pre-veg days. Lori: I haven't been to Java Green in D.C., but I hear good things about it, and I'll definitely stop by next time I'm in the that area. - Alan > lilmunkydunk <lilmunkydunk@a...> wrote:Hi all, > > This December I'll be taking my toddler to see Thomas the Tank Engine > near Lancaster, PA (Straussburg <sp?> railroad museum), and am > wondering if anyone knows of any particularly veg friendly restaraunts > around those parts. > Thanks, > Nikki >
Guest guest
Thanks, Alan. Maybe we'll check it out. Seems nice. I'm not in love with the mock cheese yet. I threw some in our tofu scramble and it didn't exactly melt, more accurately it dissolved and made the scramble oily. We'll be trying it on homemade pizza tomorrow. It is definately gross (IMO) when eaten raw. I used the cheddar flavor in some burritos and it was ok. It added some extra texture. I'm pretty fine with no cheese at all either, but it would be nice to be able to make things for the other cheese addicts in my life. Thanks again. Guest guest
I took my son twice to Strasburg to see Thomas, and I believe we ate every meal at Isaaks. It's like a cool sandwich shop. I loved their selection; I live in D.C. and I never see that many great selection of vegetarian sandwiches on a menu ever. There is an Isaak's by the Choo Choo Barn, which you won't want to miss, that is pretty close to the railway (about a mile?). Lori
