Guest guest
Ok, so I've been to the store to pick up both flax seed as well as flax seed oil. I have a question though and wondering if someone could clarify. In the book, Raising Vegetarian Children, it suggests that children between 1 and 3 yrs. should receive 1/2 tsp. flaxseed oil, or 1/2 Tbs. ground flaxseed. However, the bottle of Liquid Gold flaxseed oil I bought suggests 1 Tbs. daily. Now I'm assuming that dose is for an adult but even if you divided that dose in half for a toddler, it's still much more than 1/2 tsp. What do you recommend? Also, I getting ready to travel for the holidays. It should be safe to bring some ground flaxseed with me so I don't have to mess with buying any there right? Thanks. Guest guest
I would go with what the bottle says. On vacation seeds would be better even though they are very sensitive to going rancid. If you have to take them maybe you can bring them whole and bring a small coffee grinder too. Guest guest
Carrie, FWIW, I always gave my son a children's version of flax which included other omega 3, 6, etc oils. I know you've already purchased another brand but you could look for a bottle of children's formula and see how much they recommend. Also, I did have trouble when my son was younger caused from too much flax...waffles, seeds, oil...his bms were diarhea-like and he had stomach cramps. My advice would be to start with a smaller amount and slowly increase until you feel you've hit a good amount for your child. My son is 5.5 and still takes oils regularly. :)Madeline
