Guest guest
Unfortunately, ground flax seed does not travel. It should be used immediately after grinding, or kept in the freezer. You could probably travel with flax meal (baking aisle of health food store), come to think of it. We do road trips with the oil in a very cold cooler and make sure the hotel room has a mini fridge. You could travel with a small coffee grinder and grind seeds as needed, but the grinder needs to be cleaned very well after each grinding. The residue left behind can become harmfully rancid. As far as servings, I personally never measure anymore. I just throw little bit in almost everything. When I first started using flax oil, the directions on the bottle indicated that 2TB should be used for each 100lbs of body weight, so I used to convert that for the baby's weight. My concern would be getting enough omega 3s, not too much. Some tummies are sensitive to flax, so just look out for that. In the book, Raising Vegetarian Children, it suggests that children between 1 and 3 yrs. should receive 1/2 tsp. flaxseed oil, or 1/2 Tbs. ground flaxseed. However, the bottle of Liquid Gold flaxseed oil I bought suggests 1 Tbs. daily. Now I'm assuming that dose is for an adult but even if you divided that dose in half for a toddler, it's still much more than 1/2 tsp. What do you recommend? > > Also, I getting ready to travel for the holidays. It should be safe to bring some ground flaxseed with me so I don't have to mess with buying any there right? Thanks. > > Carrie Kahl > >
