Guest guest Posted November 3, 2000 Report Share Posted November 3, 2000 Syrian Red Lentil Soup 2 T vegetable oil 1/2 t finely chopped garlic 1 1/2 C split red lentils 6 cups of water 2 t thyme 1 t ground cumin 2 t salt 2 T flour 1/4 cup cold water 2 or 3 pieces of toasted pita bread Heat oil in saucepan. Add garlic and cook one minute. Add lentils, water, thyme, cumin and salt. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour. Mix flour with cold water until smooth and add to soup. Stir and simmer for another 5 minutes. Taste for seasoning. Serve topped with crumbled, toasted pita bread.
