Guest guest Posted November 6, 2000 Report Share Posted November 6, 2000 * Exported from MasterCook * Pulao ( Indian Rice dish ) Recipe By :Shamiana Resturant, Kirkland, WA Serving Size : 6 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Grains, Pilafs And Potatoes Indian Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 3 cups Basmati rice 6 tablespoons vegetable oil 1 small yellow onion -- finely chopped 1 tablespoon garlic -- finely chopped 1 teaspoon ginger -- grated 3 bay leaves 2 cinnamon sticks 1 tablespoon cumin seed 1 teaspoon tumeric 1 teaspoon salt 5 1/2 cups water Wash and drain the rice 3 times. With the burner on high, heat oil in a pot. Add onion, garlic and ginger and cook until translucent but not brown ( 2-3 minutes ) Add spices and stir until bloomed ( about 2 minutes ) Add the rice and stir 2 minutes. Add water and salt and stir well. Let rice boil in medium heat unti all the liquid is gone.
