Guest guest
xpost mc, veg, allcookbook This looks awesome and I will make it...but you can see we need to use lower-fat ingredients (and perhaps way less cheese) to bring down the 27 grams of fat! This would be a fun Xmas morning dish, perhaps. I know I will have to try it, as STRATA's are my latest passion -- for ease in making mostly -- but they taste good too and my family loves em. Brenda Adams * Exported from MasterCook * Momma's Egg Casserole (Glenborough Inn, Santa Barbara, Ca) - STRATA Recipe By : " Cinnamon Mornings " by Pamela Lanier Serving Size : 12 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Strata Egg Casseroles Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 8 slices bread 7 eggs 2 1/2 cups milk 1 teaspoon oregano 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 4 ounces green chili peppers -- chopped 3 cups sharp cheddar cheese -- grated 3 cups Monterey jack cheese -- grated 1 avocado -- sliced 1/2 cup sour cream The night before, place slices of bread in a 9 " by 12 " buttered casserole dish. (Can also be placed in individual casseroles.) Spread the chilies over the bread. Mix together the eggs, milk, oregano, garlic, and salt. Pour the egg mixture over the chilies. Sprinkle the cheese over the entire dish. Cover and refrigerate overnight. The next morning, preheat over to 325 degrees F. Bake for 50 minutes or until puffy and barely set. (Bake individual casseroles for 15 minutes.) Serve immediately with avocado slices and sour cream garnish. Serves 8 to 12. Typed by Brenda Adams who lusts for this dish, but wonders: how can we get the fat down - 27 grams! (lower-fat cheese -- do we really need that much(?), egg substitute, low-fat sour cream) and 15 minutes for individual servings as compared to 50? xpst to MC, Veg, Allcookbook 11/00.
