Guest guest
Niccii: This is all a matter of personal preference, but I can explain some differences that may help you make up your mind. Your first consideration is which *engine* you want -- this would be MC4, MC5, or MC6. MC4 is now being marketed as " MasterCook Express " and sells (new) for under $10. This version is the most similar to the older versions (4, 3, 2). MC5 came out a couple of years ago and then, just a few months ago, they came out with MC6. MC5 is virtually an entirely new program than MC4 and earlier. There were many, many changes. MC6 is basically an *improvement* on MC5. I would definitely rule *out* version MC5 since MC6 is available. This brings your choices down to MC4 and MC6. Most of us just love 6! However, there are lots of people who find it too complicated, slow, whatever, compared to 4. The speed was greatly improved from MC5 to MC6. 5/6 are much " fancier " MasterCooks. There are a lot more features than with older versions and everything just looks nicer. There are more customization options too. Next, when you refer to Cooking Light, Deluxe, Betty Crocker Suite, Food & Wine, etc. -- this only has to do with what cookbooks come with the program. If the cookbooks are no big deal to you, then a less expensive version would be more appropriate. They all run on the same engine -- only the cookbooks are different. The Deluxe comes with the standard cookbooks similar to those that were with MC4. Cooking Light, obviously, has CL cookbooks. Betty Crocker Suite contains all of the Deluxe cookbooks along with several Betty Crocker cookbooks, including one called " Vegetarian Favorites " . The BC Suite costs about $20 more than the other 2 versions (new). The newest is " The Best of MasterCook " which has *everything* -- BC Suite, CL, Deluxe. If it comes down to the less expensive packages, Deluxe and CL, my recommendation is Cooking Light -- there are more vegetarian recipes in that version. If you want to find out more about MC6, you might want to check out Sierra's website: http://www.sierrahome.com/software/catalog/cooking/ to get better descriptions of the packages. Just let me know if you have any other questions.
