Guest guest
Ok. Call me anal. Don't laugh. I really won't lose sleep over this, but... I like to put as much information as I can about a recipe's source in my recipes. I like to put the page number at the end of the recipe source, like this: " Garlic, Garlic, Garlic: Exceptional Recipes for the World's Most Indispensable Ingredient " by Linda Griffith & Fred Griffith, pg. whatever. Then I do the copyright. However. I have just discovered the joys and organizational ability of sorting a cookbook by source and comparing it with another on the MasterList (My temp cookbook, vs. the formatted one into which a recipe might go). The dilemma is that if I have page numbers in the Source field, it lists the recipe as having a different source as another recipe of the same cookbook/different page!! So where do you guys put the page numbers? Christine
Guest guest
Christine: That's the very reason I don't put the page number in the author field! LOL! When I want to " Sort by Source " , as you said, even if from the same cookbook, for example, if anything at all is different, it will list as a separate source so all the recipes from one particular cookbook will be separated and not all under one listing. If you haven't used the " Alternate Source Field " , you could put it there. You could make a " Page No. " choice. However, if they're imported recipes that you've run through MC-Tagit, then MC-Tagit will put the poster's name & e-mail address in that field. Karen " Christine F. Muehling " wrote: > > > Ok. I just started recording page number - where you said. at the end of source. I put the chapters or article name in the author field or I make it a category. That way -- 1) To flip pages, sort by SOURCE. 2) To flip chapters, sort by CATEGORY or author. So #1 is like flipping thru the book 1 page at a time. that's not so bad... Guest guest
Naaa. I already use the single, as in " only one " alt field to record who's posted the recipe and to what list. They could give us a couple of these fields (along with cooking times, etc) rather than wasting space with all that stupid web style interface. But nnooooOOOooooo we sacrifice functionality for fluff. OOps. Got me started, there, didn't you? <LOL> Christine -----
Guest guest
I've done that all along. Now that I've discovered this neat way to sort, though, I want to be able to sort that way cleanly, instead. I don't utilize categories in this fashion, because I've discovered that if I make the cookbooks have the as close to matching categories as I can, searching is much easier! Whereas in older versions it would have Cookes in there once for each cookbook, now it recognizes that 10 cookbooks might have Cookies, and only list it once. But if you have Cookie, Cookies and Cooky, it'll list each instance. I do a lot of searching because I can never make up my mind what to make and what's just too much trouble. Guest guest
That's how the norm was until the advent of 5.0 and it's expanded field capability. It's really wonderful for (those of us who are anal <G>) people who like every little detail. With a Source field, Copyright and Alternate Source, it gives lots of areas to put specific information, getting it out of the Notes area. The Serving Ideas area is greatly expanded, and now I'm wishing for a Variations tab! 4.watever is fantastic -- until you work with the expanded capabilities of the 5.0+ versions. This weekend I go for 6.0. Gotta HAVE IT! Thanks for not considering me anal. Unfortunately, knowing me and how even a misplaced period or incorrect punctuation can drive me to correct them all? I fear the worst.
