Spicy Cauliflower Gratin

2 2/3 pounds cauliflower -- trimmed and chopped

4 ounces butter -- divided

3 ounces freshly grated parmigiano reggiano

1/2 teaspoon freshly ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground cloves

salt and pepper

 

Preheat the broiler. Steam the cauliflower until soft and well cooked; drain.

In a bowl, crumble with the back of a fork, and mix with half the Parmigiano, a

pinch of salt, one of pepper, the cinnamon and the cloves.

 

Grease a baking dish with 1/2 tablespoon butter; transfer the mixture to the

baking dish, sprinkle with the remaining Parmigiano, and drizzle with the

remaining butter, melted. Place under the broiler until slightly brown and

crisp. Set aside for 10 minutes before serving.
