Greetings from New Zealand,

We have been on this mailing list for a while now and appreciate the many

great recipes

that have been mailed out. Not all ingredients are available here in New

Zealand but we

hope to try substituting soimething similar.

Which brings up the question: " What is Gimme Lean? " Is it a Textured

Vegetable Protein

(soya) product?

Thanks for your help.

Merry Christmas to everyone.

Gimme Lean is a product that looks like hamburger or sausage depending on

which version you buy. It is made by Lightlife. Their

website is: http://www.lightlife.com/products/GimmeLean.html . It is

useful to people who want to make recipes similar to those with ground meat.

Here is a description from their website:

Gimme Lean Beef Style makes the best vegetarian meatballs you will ever

taste anywhere, anyhow, anytime! Try our 'West Indies Meatballs' recipe

for a delicious twist on the Italian standard. And talk about meatloaf,

too. Check out our 'Meatless Meatloaf' recipe for a trip to the land of

ultimate comfort food without meat, fat, or the cholesterol.

And don't forget Gimme Lean Sausage Style for everything from pizza topping

to 'Sausage Quiche' to our wonderful 'Sausage Stuffing' recipe for those

special holiday meals. Rich in soy protein, full of flavor and easy to use,

Gimme Lean is great for the person looking to reduce meat in his or her

diet but is not quite ready to dive into that cake of tofu.

INGREDIENTS: water, textured soy protein concentrate, tapioca starch, soy

sauce (water, soybeans, wheat and salt), isolated soy protein, vital wheat

gluten, malt extract, beet powder, dried onions, natural flavors from vegetable
