Guest guest
Reading everyone's opinions shows me that if I am going to lose weight, get in shape, prevent chronic, degenerative diseases, and increase my health, wellness and longevity, then I need to make my own decisions, choose me own path, and take responsibility for my own life. All of these conflicting opinions are simply good reading. I am 5'9 " tall, 59 years old, and weigh 172 lbs. My total cholesterol is 189, HDL is 43 and triglycerides are 63. My blood pressure is 120/80 and my pulse is 72. I'm in average health, and I've begun to have hypoglycemic responses to my sugar binges. Hypoglycemia is stage one of Adult Onset Diabetes and I've decided to begin working on prevention/cure/reversal using diet and exercise, rather than waiting for a doctor to sell me drugs in order to continue an unhealthy lifestyle. My first decision is to completely renounce/entirely abstain from certain addictive substances that have a deleterious effect and no possible salutary effects. Accordingly, as of 1/6/03 I have begun to abstain entirely from: Alcohol Cigarettes Illicit and Prescription Drugs Simple sugar(s), Sugar substitutes, Artificial sweetners Refined carbohydrates (low-fiber flour) Animal protein, fats, oils, and cholesterol Nuts and seeds; olives and avocadoes; and all soy products. Coffee Salt Removing these things from my diet with one simple sweep of the pen seems to be easier than continually fighting to moderate and control the amount of them that I take. I don't need any of them and getting them out of my diet should make it easier to lower my cholesterol, improve my health and prevent chronic, degenerative diseases. We all have to live or die with our opinions. This is my first step toward renouncing an old, unhealthy lifestyle and beginning an new one. Any comments? Guest guest
Dave: Thanks for the very constructive, positive suggestions. I guarantee you that when you begin to approach 60 years of age, as I have, that the mind naturally turns to health and wellness. When I wake up with aches and pains in my back, I'm interested in finding ways to cure that. When I have an hypoglycemic episode, I'm interested in curing it. And when I find out that there is a very good probability that my coronary arteries are occluded, I'm interested in reversing that. Personally, I can't see why anyone would worry about whether chickens are free-ranging or not. And many other concerns of members of this group don't interest me in the slightest. I would like to have another healthy and vital 30 years of life, however. I'd like to marry a woman 40 years younger than myself and do everything that I've done before--and get it right this time. But I don't care how anybody but me defines vegan--for my purposes--and I don't see anything wrong with eating 3 ozs of skinless chicken breast once a month to get my allotment of B12, rather than taking a pill full of artificial stuff out of a laboratory. This has been a good discussion. I hope we can put it behind and get past it. Guest guest
Good going, Ron. SOunds like your diet is very well and chicken is healthy for you. However, if B12 is all you're worried about, eggs and dairy are loaded with them. Of course, there's the cholesterol... So, I've been doing this a while. >>...I wake up with aches and pains in my back, I'm interested in finding ways to cure that.<< Get an Inversion Table. I use mine several times a week. Guest guest
> 19, huh? Sounds great, if you can make it happen. > Will we all get > invitations to the wedding? > Sorry, but why would any 59 year old want to marry a 19 year old? Not only are you emotionally and mentally incompatable but the physical would be an obstacle as well. When I was 19-20, I dated men in their mid 40's...Established, yes, charming, yes, fun, yes, baggage, YES, couldn't keep up with me and my raging hormones, YES. Will never understand why a grown man would yearn for the affections of a baby. Really, it does amaze me. It amazed me when I was a baby and it amazes me now. Warmly, Allison Mail Plus - Powerful. Guest guest
I don't mean to criticize you at all, so don't take it that way, but if you arent eating any soy, meat, or nuts, are you going to get enough protein? Can you get enough from beans and whatever other sources there are? I'm 17, and all I know about nutrition, I learned from our public school system, so that's why I am asking. I want to compliment you for giving up a lot of your list though. I don't think I could live with pop. I drink diet caffeine free, which I guess is a step in the right direction, because for like 10 years of my life I drank regular coke. Last month I had to have breast surgery though. It turned out that the lump was actually 2 fibroadenomas. No big deal, they just grow, but I read something on the internet said that they are caused by drinking pop! (and other things that I never drink) ~Sara Nuts and seeds; olives and avocadoes; and all soy products. Personally, I think 19 is way too young, but then it wasn't my fantasy. Dave
