I'm lucky - my husband and I are both vegetarian ;=) Ron's eating

habits do offend *me* because he is insisting on telling us the 'good'

healthy reasons for eating chicken. I thought I had joined a vegetarian

list, and although I understand there may well be non-vegetarians on a

vegetarian list they usually keep their meat eating habits to themselves

;=)

I also have been a bit troubled this last couple of days to find flame

messages authored by Ron in my inbox. Not a pleasant thing to wake up to

or to sit down to at any time of day ;=) I have been ignoring these, but

how can things change unless those who are offended or distressed

indicate their feelings on the matter. I could of course take myself off

the list, but this is a vegetarian list and I am truly a vegetarian.

What may not be understood - or even appreciated - is that all

vegetarians are not vegetarians for the sake of their health. It is a

very healthy diet - and the vegan diet is pretty well acclaimed by sane

nutritionists as the healthiest of all. I applaud that ;=) But some

people have ethical, philosophical, religious, ecological, aesthetic -

and probably a bunch of other reasons - for being vegetarian. Vegetarian

lists are supposed to be safe sites for all vegetarians - we all get

enough hassle from meat eaters in our lives without having to get

hassled by an 'almost vegan' (another irritating point). A superior

attitude - and, forgive me, that's what it sounded like from here - over

preferring meat to pills sounds not only a hassle but positively

subversive in a vegetarian group. And yes, it is offensive to me.

I do not think you could have voiced my opinion much better than that - I was trying to think of a polite way of doing it but with my being at work right now... didn't have time to do that ;)

You as well Dave, I agreed with much of your posts.

I am offended by *anyone* in a veggie safe place telling me that meat is important to eat and that nutritional requirements cannot be filled by anything else when they in fact can. I hear that everyday in the "real world" and do not appreciate it here. I respect people who are meat eaters though many of my reasons for not eating it are ethical... after all I still love my parents, boyfriend and other people even though they do eat it.

So bottom line... please try to discuss vegetables on this list and leave the animals alone... unless you got a new puppy of course please tell us all about them!

Have a great day!

Pat,

i have to agree with you here, i also do not want meat discussed

here on a vegetarian list. I have asked Ron to consider more

carefully what he posts so as not to offend. I also want to make it

clear that if offensive messages are posted by anyone then their

membership of the group will be in jeopardy. To repeat once again,

the content of this group should be vegetarian slimming and health

issues. I really hope you'll stay Pat, its good to have you here,

and as the group is still " young " its just experiencing a

few " teething " problems. Please stay,

Pat:

If you are eating peanuts, that doesn't hurt me. I

think it hurts you.

Hey there Ron,

I am not allergic to peanuts, they were a non-animal product last time I

checked, I have never used them as a concealed weapon, and I do not

inhale them ;=) Besides, the smiley I used was to indicate an attempt

at humour - something to lighten things up a little - you know ;=) ?

Well, I don't have a new puppy, but I did get another kitty! In December, my uncle was at a bar, and the poor little guy was abandoned there. He brought him home, gave us a call, and...I'm so glad he did! He is the sweetest little guy ever! He looks just like the cat on "Milo and Otis", so his name is Milo. Anytime you touch him or play with him, he starts purring extremely loud, and when he's tired, he finds me and plops down and starts purring. He has decided I'm his bed! lol. My brother said when my mom and I aren't home, he sits outside my brother's door and cries. He hates being alone. ~Sara

So bottom line... please try to discuss vegetables on this list and leave the animals alone... unless you got a new puppy of course please tell us all about them!
