Guest guest
Yes I have been doing that for quite a few weeks... as I told you before. I couldn't go completely due to the fact that I eat at school and don't cook myself. Choice is limited. And sorry I am afraid I can't become a Vegan cos I can't give dairy product... I am afraid I would die without it . But my current goal is to become a vegetarian finally, so please pray for me. :-)
Guest guest
Good luck Annie, Doesn’t your school offer any vegetarian meals? What school do you goto? Good luck in your goal in becoming vegetarian, you will find it does get easy, for most people I think the first week or so is the hardest. You might want to discuss what is available to you at school and let us give you pointers on how to get a decent vegetarian meal out of it. One time our department head provided a catered meal for the employees. It was a huge vat of barbecued beef and a similar vat of barbecued chicken. Along with the entree was pinto beans, corn chips, salsa, potato salad and cole slaw. Since I live in a rather red-neck part of the country (Oklahoma) and my co-workers are mostly working class (pressmen) this meal was greeted with great delight. By everybody but me. Then I realized if I covered my plate with corn chips and topped them with the beans and salsa, and with the potato salad and cole slaw on the side I had a rather nice meal. there are tricks. We can possibly help you figure them out. >Choice is limited. And sorry I am >afraid I can't become a Vegan cos I can't give dairy product... I am >afraid I would die without it . I think one should be careful with eggs, cheese and high-fat dairy, but in moderation they are all right and the protein in egg white is higher quality than even that in meat. And nobody has to die to produce them. Guest guest
I'm a Lacto-ovo-vegetarian. In the summer months I like my ice cream. I don't drink much milk or other dairy products. Instead I take a Calcuim/Magnesium vitamin 3 times a day. Everyone had a great day and happy veggie/vegan eating Bridget....Who is off to walk her Huskey pup :-) Sending Good Luck Your Way Annie!!!!!!!! In a situation I can't control, I'd rather do that than eat an unbalanced diet, not eat at all or--worse--to go ahead and eat the meat. In a restaurant other situation where I *do* have some choices I usually avoid the things you mention for the reasons you mention. Guest guest
Exactly--if you think about it, we are all vegetarians of different comfort zones with pretty much the same rationale and values. Some would (do!) consider me a fanatic because I watch out for meat broth in my soup. Some consider me a hypocrit (sp?) because my running shoes are made of leather (oh, I so wish I could find a good substitute for leather) Others might consider a vegan fanatic. I just go by the creed that it's all an individual choice to what degree of vegetarianism each of us chooses--as long as I don't preach, make anyone uncomfortable, and I am not preached to (from meat eaters and egetarians alike) I'm happy with my choice. :] ~Laura Susan Cogan <susan-brassfield wrote: yes, but all the meat products will be in trace amounts. Guest guest
Hi, L3, Seems to me that some veggies are into it for health reasons, other for ethical reasons, and then some for both sets of reasons. To me, each person ought to make their own choice, and allow others to do the same. Someone asked earlier if vegans eat honey. As a L-O veggie, I asked a vegan friend who said...well, yes and no!! Dietary vegans "could" eat honey, but ethical vegans probably "would not." Another vegan friend drew the line much stricter, but I won't go there for now. Speaking of non leather shoes, I find them often at "Payless Shoe Source." I live near San Francisco. I won't tell you that the quality is the best I've ever seen, but the price is right. They are often quite stylish and look identical to leather. I jog and easily wear out a pair in six months, but at $20-30 a pair, it's a great deal for me. Instead of spending $300 for four pairs, I usually get away for under a hundred. Guest guest
Good luck with your plans for a vegetarian diet Annie. I'm sure we all know how difficult it can be when starting out so if you need any advice or tips don't be scared to ask. I hope the recipes here will be of use to you. Who cooks for you? Perhaps you could take a few recipes to show them? Wishing you luck and the strength to succeed, Laura ----------- Take a look at my : My online diary is at: http://laurakate01.diaryland.com/ ----------- " A man can live and be healthy without killing animals for food; therefore, if he eats meat, he participates in taking animal life merely for the sake of his appetite.
