Hi Joyce,

I'm sure you'll receive a warm welcome here! I've found that people at work

have been really nice and helped me settle into the area. Although they do

laugh at me for not being Welsh and for talking posh, apparently! :) (I

come from a town just above London).

There are places where non-Welsh people aren't welcome, but they tend to be

out in the more rural areas where it is rare to see a " foreigner " . So i

doubt you'd come across this. I don't want it to sound like i'm attacking

welsh people, they are lovely! Its just that, as with anywhere, you do get

places, pubs or areas, that you learn to avoid. As i said, people have been

friendly and helpful here, and the scenery is great! I'm sure you'll fit

right in!

I might be moving back to England in August to be nearer my family but if

you want to chat to someone about the area in any more specific detail feel

free to mail me offlist :)

Have a nice Sunday!

Laura :)

I love the Cardiff area,

>the city centre has pretty much everything you can ask for, shops,

>nightlife, gardens, restaurants, cinemas, etc. It has it all I think.

Absolutely right. Its a great city and i'll be sad to be leaving if i go in

August. I just wish i could pick up the whole city and move it closer to my

family! hehe.

I feel like i've slagged off Wales now. I really didn't mean it that way.

I like it here. Its just that i know of 1 or 2 pubs in towns outside of

Cardiff where you would get verbal abuse for being English. I once had a

guy tell me call me all kinds of names because of my accent. But, as i said

before its rare, and Cardiff is such a cool city. All my mates here are

welsh too, and they're pretty fab! I'm not going to say anything else about

it coz i don't want it to come out the wrong way.

Hope you're having a good week everyone.

Laura, zipping her mouth shut after taking her foot out of it! ;)

Hi Laura,

Don’t worry you haven’t slagged off Wales, I know what you mean, there are a few areas in Cardiff, and in some other ‘Welsh’ places in Wales (if you know what I mean), that are very Welsh orientated, and if your not Welsh, it is probably best to avoid.

Hope everyone is well,

Jon

Hi Laura,

sorry it's taken me awhile to write back. I'm definitely looking forward to

moving to Wales. I'll bet when relatives visit you they might say that you

sound almost local! That has always been my experience when I've moved

somewhere. The locals heard an accent and the people from back home heard one

too. <bg>

I really appreciate hearing that there are places that non-welsh aren't welcome,

even though they tend to be in more rural areas. In my book, the more I know

the better that minimizes any unpleasant surprises! I imagine most countries

have distinct areas of people with a certain history that can make it harder to

be friendly when they don't want to be. I have experienced this a little bit

here in the US too when I was in the USAF.

Like you said, as with anywhere you get places that you learn to avoid.

I'd love to be able to chat to you about the area. I'll send you an email off

list soon. :)

>Have a nice Sunday! Laura :)< ditto to you Laura!
