Guest guest
Sorry about the off-topic post, but in case you haven't heard the news today, here goes :=( How many of you, living in Canada, have noted that there is now a ban on petfood from the USA coming into Canada because of the Washington State 'mad cow' crisis? It was reported on our news this morning. I telephone my petstore (in London, Ontario), which deals only in natural foods, no rendered material, no preservatives, blah blah blah, and they report the situation as " very serious indeed " . The authorities are not, of course, bothering to check labels (they couldn't do that, it seems) so that not even vegetarian/vegan food can get through. Since a *huge* amount of all pet food sold in Canada is manufactured in the USA, there is likely to be a problem as long as this ban stays on. Although I would not advise stockpiling food in any kind of situation, it might be well to check that you have enough for the forseeable duration of the ban for any companion animals which require a specialized diet - diabetic, low protein, or whatever, I dunno - in order to survive. At least, check with your local pet supply store, okay? Guest guest
Oh my gosh, this is scary! All we're hearing here is since the cow in question has been traced back to Canada, they're looking at it from that angle. So why are they banning petfood back to Canada? Sounds like a vicious cycle to me. Haven't heard anything about this here. Let us know when you hear more. Paula J. -
Guest guest
> So why are they banning petfood back to Canada? Sounds > like a vicious cycle to me. Doesn't it just! siggggghhhh. Well, the idea is supposed to be that the USA cow (wherever it came from) has already gone into the human food chain and also to rendering plants to be put into petfood. The ban on beef from the USA includes petfood - even petfood that doesn't have meat in it because they don't bother reading the labels. It doesn't make a lot of sense, really - but politics rarely does, and this is clearly a 'political' decision. Meanwhile, with more than half of Canada's petfood normally being imported from the USA, Canada is starting to experience a shortage. Hence my message yesterday. Guest guest
There are some super easy recipes for cooking for pets also. Now, i don't eat meat but i do feed it to my dogs. From reading i have done, people are more meant to be vegetarian, dogs are more omnivorous. If anyone would like a quick, easy, healthy recipe for their dogs let me know(off list). It grosses me out to make it, i don't like handling meat but atleast i know what they are eating! peace nikki Sant & Brown [santbrown]Tuesday, January 06, 2004 10:32 AM Subject: Re: OFF TOPIC: Petfood Shortage in Canada> So why are they banning petfood back to Canada? Guest guest
that particular cow inquesiton was traced to a herd from Canada (quebec I think?), so that might explaint he ban. Anyway, it was processed after it was slaughtered. Glad i'm a vegetarian!
