Guest guest
Hi Everyone! I have a request. For Easter Sunday, I am making a ham for the family gathering for dinner. I know... " YUCKY " . But I'm taking " baby steps " . My husband and I are ALWAYS the ones that have to make the holiday meals (mostly I do) and the family is not vegetarian. My baby step here is that after cooking a Turkey for Christmas for them all, I just put my foot down and said that I will never buy or cook a any bird for anyone anymore. It's a huge change for them not to have a turkey on Easter but they might as well get used to it because this is only the beginning. I take my own veggie entrees with me when I go somewhere. They can bring their own animal. ANYWAYS, I'm also going to do something with Silken low-fat tofu and I'd kinda like the taste to be compatable with the ham. That way, maybe I can nudge them that direstion gradually. I'd like to probably do something baked or roasted so that I can do it ahead of time. I have had success marinating slices of tofu, dredging it in a bit of flour, cornmeal and spices, and then baking it until it's a bit crispy. Can anyone give me some ideas for a " ham " compatable marinade for the tofu? My goal is NOT to make it taste like ham, only taste well with ham, if that makes any sense. Any ideas? I haven't tried it, but this one sounds like what you are looking for http://www.theppk.com/recipes/dbrecipes/index.php?RecipeID=144 Orange Ginger Baked Tofu This one is fried, but I think it would work baked in the oven, with the sauce added at the end, perhaps adjusting the marinade http://ashycook.topcities.com/maindishes/fried-tofu-with-cashews.htm Fried tofu slices with cashew sauce Something like this might be nice for Easter too. This one isn't a vegan recipe, but you could substitute tofu and maybe some flour for the eggs . I'm thinking of doing something like this for easter myself. If I do I'll post the recipe I come up with... but that will be a little late for you. http://www.fatfree.com/recipes/dips-spreads/three-color-pate Three color pate Ranvaig
