Guest guest
Thanks to Dr Michael Greger and his research, we now have the following NEW website for information on the Atkins Diet, come to me this morning via his monthly newsletter. http://www.AtkinsFacts.org/ Everyone, whether they have ever tried or contemplated trying the diet, should check it out - we all know people who have done it and it's good to know as much as possible about it. Best, Pat ;=)

This guy is just on a mission to smear low-carb dieting as much as possible. My opinion is that we don't have enough good research to make some of the assertions that he makes. FYI, an oldie but a goodie: http://www.atkinsdietalert.org/ But you will of course make up your own mind based on the lack of research. My original post was for information. Just that. I do not have a medical degree. Best, Pat ;=)
Guest guest
There is also some info on atkins diet that has been around for a while, from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Their site is http://www.atkinsdietalert.org/ Also if you check out their main site http://www.pcrm.org they also have alerts and updates on info about the Atkins diet. I know there are some who don't want to discuss this, but I also agree that it is important to always be open to discussion so that we can all learn. You are more than welcome to delete my message, but I'd like to talk about it too if possible. Seems there are many sources that disprove of the Atkins diet, and yet there are low carb options springing up everywhere, in fact, I heard recently that Weight Watchers will soon be adopting a low carb diet plan. My personal feelings about restricting any food group for weight loss reasons is not realistic. As a vegetarian, excluding meat from the diet is not the same, because it is only one source of protein and excluding IT is not exluding the entire protein group as there are other sources of protein. However, I think that to really have a practical and realistic as well as healthy body, there should be no such things as DIETS just healthy eating. A lifestyle that incorporates healthy foods in healthy moderation that can be sustained for life. That being said, whether these sites on atkins have valid facts or not or accurate reporting, is a mute point for me personally. Anyhow, that's my two cents for today. -Rebecca ~Open mindedness is the key to wisdom. Guest guest
Sorry I was a bit late on this posting...lol...I've been off for a while and just came back to catch up, there's one sentence that wasn't clear in my email I'd just like to clear up...i said that " My personal feelings about restricting any food group for weight loss reasons is not realistic " what i meant was that my personal feelings about restricting any food group for weight loss is that it is not a realistic thing to do. Hope that cleared it up and again sorry for the late email and the repetition. I liked Ira's thoughts on the whole thing and was sorry to see the one person leave, but they don't seem to have wanted to discuss things in a group meant for discussion! Anyhow, one leaves, another enters, it's the way the world goes round... Welcome Lizzy! Best, Rebecca ~Open mindedness is the key to wisdom. Guest guest
Hi Rebecca, you say: >I think that to really have a practical and realistic as well as healthy body, there should be no such things as DIETS just healthy eating. A lifestyle that incorporates healthy foods in healthy moderation that can be sustained for life. Of course, you know me: I agree ;=) But perhaps, since we all have a Diet of something - diet being what we eat - I'd feel happier if we said there should be no such things as Weightloss Diets. Magic formulas for losing weight all come down to the same thing - eat fewer calories. That's even how the low-carb diets work, whatever else they say ;=) The trick, of course, is how to inform yourself enough so that one can eat less and still have all the foods in there for a healthy body *lol* No doubt there'll be more on this later. Best, Pat ;=)
Guest guest
Yes, Pat, that's essentially what I meant, so I agree wholeheartedly! -Rebecca ---- > veggiehound But perhaps, since we all have a Diet of > something - diet being what we eat - I'd feel happier if we said there should be > no such things as Weightloss Diets.
