Guest guest
I see that most of you don't use the appliances I named in my recent poll ;=) That's really interesting - cuz I suppose it all depends on where you live and what your eating habits are in hot weather! Salads for everyone??? Or just that everyone has aircon??? Or no one's suffering in the heat this summer??? Actually, the last is pretty well true of us. We had a hot spell (remember the beads of perspiration on all my emails for a while there?) but we are having an unnaturally cold summer. I don't mind that - I long ago decided I didn't like lying around in the sun, and as long as there is sunshine I don't much mind if I have to wear a light jacket early mornings and evenings - or even all day. I don't mind rain too much, but some sun is necessary for my happies ;=) Back to the Poll: I shall close it off soon. For the record, I like the crockpot for hotweather use - can cook up things that might really heat and/or steam up the kitchen and then keep them warm for serving later or over a length of time. I don't have a toaster oven, which so far is the second favourite next to the number one contender which is, you guessed it, the microwave! (Which of course I use too - doesn't everyone even a little bit!) but for defrosting and reheating now more than cooking from scratch. Anyway, take a look if you like - and tell me what you think ;=) I'll be concluding the poll in about a week . . . Best, Pat ;=)
Guest guest
Hi Pat, The poll results so far are interesting. As a one-person household, making something in a crockpot would produce far too much food for me. Even with freezing half, it would take me way too long to eat it all up Sometimes my Mom will make something veg in her crockpot and share half with me, so I think that there needs to be at least two people to be fed for a crockpot to be pratical (just mho). As for the microwave, I have a friend who is a macrobiotic vegan, and she says that even having a microwave in the house is a danger, much less eating foods that have been zapped! Does anyone know about this or have an opinion? Karen in FL, where it is hothumidhothumid!

I only make the kinds of things in it that freeze easily - otherwise we'd be eating the same thing all week ;=( And we don't have the large-sized crockpot. Actually, though, a cyberfriend wrote once that she has a large one and also a mini-crockpot - just the right size, I gather, for one or two persons. I haven't seen one, but then I haven't been looking. When I do, though, I'll be very interested. I think *lol* > As for the microwave, I have a friend who is a macrobiotic vegan, and > she says that even having a microwave in the house is a danger, much > less eating foods that have been zapped! Best love, Pat ;=)
Guest guest
I use my outdoor grill a lot & cook most veggies in my wok. HIGH heat & super fast. Guest guest
Well, yeah, I mighta guessed that!!! Do you use an ordinary wok - or an electric wok? I'm guessing the former, since they're easier when it comes to washing, aren't they? Although, you could take an electric one outside . . . Silly me, I forgot to add the outdoor grill to the possibilities on the poll! LOL Guess who lives in a condo so doesn't use one!!! Best, Pat ;=) > I use my outdoor grill a lot & cook most veggies in my wok. HIGH heat & super fast. Bethie
Guest guest
Small brag....we're redoing our kitchen & since we both love to cook, we splurged on a professional range w/MEGA btu's (spectacular investment if anyone's curious). Yes, we use a regular wok. Pat <veggiehound wrote: Well, yeah, I mighta guessed that!!! Do you use an ordinary wok - or an electric wok?
