Best, Pat ;=) ----- One Out of Every Four College Students Wants Vegan Meals According to ARAMARK Nationwide Survey; Campuses Across Country Offer 'Vegan' This Fall PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 2004--According to ARAMARK's recent nationwide survey completed by over 100,000 college students, nearly a quarter said finding vegan meals on campus was important to them. Guest guest
Anecdote told by a vegan friend who attended Carleton University 10 years ago: She had signed up for the vegetarian meal plan at the cafeteria and proceeded along past the various areas, picking up some salad along the way. When she reached the hot food section, she asked the server, " So, what's the vegetarian meal today? " The server replied, " Vegetarian stew. " He gestured towards the steamer tray containing it. Skeptically, my friend replied, " Is there beef in that? " " Yes. "
Guest guest
It's funny you should mention Carleton. I've been vegan for 6 years, and going to Carleton since 1998. I guess things changed a bit since your friend was there 10 years ago since they had real vegan options for many years (ingredient lists were offered and certain products were cooked in non-meat pans etc). However, last year Carleton decided to change food service providers (most likely for economic reasons), and most vegan items (except the salad bar) got taken off the menu. Nice... Carleton even forced the vegan " G-Spot " food collective out in 2002, this time for insurance reasons. University campuses in general are probably better off than they were 10 years ago in terms of veg*n options, but economics (and to a certain degree, politics) still seem to take precedence over anything else. I'll use this post as an introduction as well: My name is Julie, i live in Ottawa, Canada, am 28 and vegan. , " Stuart Parker " <afusangite> wrote: > > Anecdote told by a vegan friend who attended Carleton University 10 > years ago: > > She had signed up for the vegetarian meal plan at the cafeteria and > proceeded along past the various areas, picking up some salad along > the way.
