Guest guest
Does anyone else out there get indigestion or stomach ache from too many vegetables? I try to be good and munch radish slices or pickle slices to keep me away from a bag of chips, but invariably there's an upset stomach to follow, I presume from too much acid??? Does anyone know of anything natural to take that will balance that acid feeling?
Guest guest
Hi Aurora, Radishes are difficult to digest, and pickling spice and brine can cause indigestion. Rather than take something to counteract the stomachache that radishes and pickles cause you, maybe you could substitute vegs that are easier on your tummy - baby carrots and cucumber slices work for me as quick snacks that satisfy the crunch craving. Guest guest
" indigestion or stomach ache from too many vegetables? " Try ginger. Another idea is bland foods - bananas, cream of wheat, mashed potato, bread, rice...
Guest guest
Radishes are a member of the cruciferous vegetable family, and thus may cause gas and indigestion in some people, as other members of the cruciferous family do. They also contain salicylates a major ingredient in aspirin, so it is possible that you may be sensitive to the salicylate or cruciferous vegetables affect you that way..As for the pickles, there are two types of fermentaion. One is soaking in acid, and the other is brining, or a fermentation process. The brining method of which most dill pickles are made causes a marked increase in the production of lactic acid. You may be sensitive to lactic acid. Lactic acid is produced as a result of the oxidation of glucose to two molecules of pyruvate and then pyruvate to lactate. Guest guest
Hi Mark- Thanks for that very informed answer!! Who would have connected pickles to lactic acid? I'm most impressed with your knowledge and grateful for the input.
