doing anything special

So, I wondered if any of you are doing anything special with your weight control

over the holidays? Personally, I am drinking more water and staying away from

alcohol and anything sweet or fatty except for at parties, and even then, just a

taste. One of my friends told me I looked " like I lost weight " the day after

thanksgiving! I wouldn't say that the scale said that, but I certainly haven't

gained anything.

Does anyone have an special tips or anything that you are doing to stave off

holiday pounds?

Oh, and btw, thanks for all the " not milk " updates- I've been reading the

website and it has convinced me to cut way back on cheese and dairy. Not

completely " weened " yet, but I am working my way.

Thanks all of you,

best,

ZAN

Hi ZAN,

I try to not deprive myself over the holidays, because I just end up

binging. I do try to add a little extra exercise to counteract all

the holiday treats, and though I may not lose weight at this time of

year, I usually will at least not gain any.

Regarding the notmilk.com site, did you see today's post? I could

not bear to view the video of the slaughterhouse - just the

description was enough to ruin my day :(

Regards,

Karen

My answer....running. I have lost about thirty pounds since I started running

about 4 months ago. And I have made no dietary changes....its all the running.

I started with a beginners program that had me running for 30 seconds and

walking for 4 minutes...now I am running an hour solid and training for a

marathon next year. I am a pretty slow runner at this point, but that doesnt

matter too much in my opinon. Its fabulous. If anyone needs a copy of that

beginners program let me know....running changed my life.

Peace,

Shannon

Recently heard of a study that indicates that as people get more

sleep, they lose weight. Why? One bit of conjecture: when one is

sleeping, one cannot eat!!! Also, have heard that overeating can be

triggered by overtiredness, that often our bodies are seeking a

higher energy level because they are tired. And that this lack of

energy can be read as a need for food energy, rather than a need for

sleep. Which brings us back to the idea that more sleep = less

eating. My goal, therefore? Get more sleep. And also, as was noted

by Susan in her original post, drinking more water. Let you know how

this develops.

Did you know that in studies it has been proven that approx 75 percent of the

time when somebody thinks they are hungry, it is actually the body signaling

that it is dehydrated and need liquid!!!! Our first instinct is to eat

unfortunately!!

What I find really interesting about what everyone's been saying is that we will

use almost any excuse to EAT! LOL Tired? Eat something (everyone tells you

this, of course - yer blood sugar must be low, etc.), when you probably need a

nap or a good long drink of water. Of course, tapwater or even designer

bottled water doesn't taste as good as *food*, so . . . and napping is not

always an option when the boss is around or you're in the middle of ferrying

the kids or the olds to where they need to be ferried to, so . . .

Hmmm. I shall have to give this some thought. Wonder how much of this I

do???

Thanks, all ;=)
