Hi CT,

Please do not just stop taking your Wellbutrin. If you no longer want

to take it, ask your prescribing physician how to taper it down to

finally discontinuing it. I work as a psychiatric nurse, and know that

stopping a medication like Wellbutrin " cold turkey " (not a very nice

expression in a veg group :) can have very uncomfortable side effects

and be harmful to you. Please check with your doctor.

Hi Karen,

No, I would never do that. I was taking one a day, then

went to one every other day for about a week, then one

every three days then stopped. I did notice a difference in

that I got tired earlier; but not that much.

Thanks for your reply.

I do not usually like to get involved with things like this, but wellbutrin has

so many harmful side effects that it is almost worse than the disease. There are

many herb that are actually better than wellbutrin for clinical depression, and

I am not talking about St. John Wort which is good for mild to moderate cases of

depression, but the answer lies in bitters Certain herbs(bitters) improve

endocrine and digestive processes, lift energy and help to treat constipation a

common symptom of depression.. I can help if you like. LIfe is so beautiful

nobody should have to be depressed. WITH LOVE MARK

I hesitate to get involved with this topic. I consider depression a very serious

illness indeed and I am always uncomfortable when non-specialists offer

opinions. Please understand that by 'non-specialists' I mean even medical

personnel unless they are psychiatrists who have long experience and

training in treating mental disorders chemically. Even those specialists would

of course be unable to treat responsibly at long distance ;=)

May I please suggest that advice of any sort on this list is most decidedly not

a

substitue for sound medical advice from a practitioner who is aquainted with

the patient - any patient, whatever the problem may be.

I suggest further that it would be most improper for this discussion to

continue.

Hi CT ;=)

Forgive me for intruding on this exchange you had with Karen, who advised

you most sensibly. I feel there's something I would feel happier adding. But

first, let me say I am not trying to give adivice - just expressing a few random

thoughts that may or may not be a help or a nuisance or anything at all ;=)

Total sympathy over the depression - and total understanding over your

wanting to get off your antidepressants! No one likes them, it seems, and

getting off them is often a major consideration for those who are taking them.

Good for you for doing it gradually and responsibly - I've known too many

people who just flush em away one day. Truly :=( I guess your doctor was

able to monitor you while you went off them? How long does the drug stay in

the system after you've stopped with it? Some take two or three weeks before

your body has got rid of it all and the effects - which means other medications

can be tricky until the required time (whatever it is) is up. Yer doc can tell

you

about that, though!

And I just want to give you a big hug. That's all. Okay? And if you need to talk

about it at all, well, we're here. Unable to do much more than lend a

sympathetic ear, of course, but here for you all the same. Me - I think you're *

great*!!!

Best love,

Pat ;=)

You didn't! You spoke up perfectly properly - and kindly - and I am so pleased

you did ;=) As it happens, all seems okay, but of course you had to shout a

warning and did. Good!

Talk later?

Much love, Pat

It's OK Pat, no opology needed on your part. I should have

thought. It was off topic and we probably should have

emailed off list. My fault, so my opologies.

For me it was about three days until it was out of my

system.

The reason I mentioned it, I think was because I am still

trying to lose weight and it definately makes me hungry as

well as keeps me awake.

Hugs back :o)

Well, yes, now that you mention it, it was kinda OT, but that wasn't really what

I

was worrying about ;=) I think Karen and I were both of a mind - that we were

worried for you. Depression is, to say the obvious, the pits :=(

I didn't mean the effects of *feeling* it or feeling the absence of it. But

never

mind. I'm not yer doctor!

Was that a reason for going off it? Miserable, isn't it, when one's meds work

against what we want for ourselves. But ya know, sometimes you have to

make choices for health. Maybe there's something else your doctor can

recommend that *doesn't* make you feel so hungry??? ;=)

Anyway, I'm gonna read all about your recipe/feast and toddle off to bed. Take

care. Thanks for writing back so quickly! I was worried.

Best love, Pat

Pat, I just wanted to see if t was the wellbutrin that was

keeping me awake. I also noticed that my appetite went

down, but increased again when I started taking it again.

When I started on anti-depressants 12 yrs ago, I was taking

Prozac. Wonderful for my depression .... worked great for

me; but in 9 yrs I had ballooned 80 lbs!! Not going there

again.!!

MMMMmmm!! drinking some of the broth (warm) from my soup as

part of my fluid intake. So good!!

Sleep well

Thanks, CT ;=) Your broth sounds wonderful - and that I *am* able to give an

opinion on! LOL

As for the medical discussion, I think I shall now well and truly call it closed

;=)

You seem to have thought of everything and in any case you have a history of

taking such medications and also have of course your own medical advisor.

Talk to her about it - ya never know there may be something she can suggest!

Okay. Finished LOL

Best love,

Pat ;=)

I had been on Paxil and with a doctors help I weaned myself off of it.

I still have some sleep interruption, but I am doing much better without

the drug.

Unfortunately sometimes the side effects of some of these powerful

prescription drugs are worse than what you started off with. My

son-in-law is a physician and he tells me that everything, even common

over-the-counter drugs have side effects.
