Guest guest
Hi all: I am feeling pretty good about joining this group! Let me introduce myself. For the new year I decided to began with a vegetarian diet. I have attempted a few times before but fell pathetically short: eating nothing but breads and cheating. This time I have educated myself and hace decided a gradual approach is the best for me. I am still eating (in limited servings) fish, fowl, eggs and some dairy. (My daughter has a dairy allergy and I want to make shopping a bit less painful. Any help that anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated. I am looking for ways to keep my daughter and I both well fed, satisfied and healthy. Thanks! ~Rachee
Guest guest
Rachee, Check out the book, The Gradual Vegetarian. I can't remember the author just now, but it is terrific! I used it when I first made the switch from meat eater to vegetarian. My husband and I had not eaten red meat for several years prior, but moving to complete vegetarianism was still a bit daunting. This book helped a lot, and has some wonderful recipes to boot! Kellius > This time I have educated myself and hace decided a gradual approach is the best for me. Guest guest
Hi Rachee I'm another newbie in similar circumstances - although I haven't tried this before. At the moment, I'm finishing off the meat in the freezer and stocking up on the alternatives instead of buying more. It's going to be interesting! Guest guest
Rachee, the first thing I would suggest is building a pantry of vegetarian essentials that you want to have around for most recipes. This link on Nava Atlas's site should help: http://www.vegkitchen.com/Veg_pantry.htm Don't worry for now how much you are vegetarian or not. Start collecting and trying recipes until you have a set of reliable ones that you can make anytime. Here are some vegetarian recipes sites to get you started on finding recipes: http://www.vrg.org/recipes/index.htm, http://www.vegkitchen.com/recipes.htm, http://vegweb.com/recipes/, http://www.vegcooking.com/, or http://vegetarian.allrecipes.com/, http://www.tastyandmeatless.com/recipes.htm. Here are some portals to other vegetarian sites and recipe sites: http://www.jewishveg.com/recipes.html, http://www.myhq.com/public/s/u/susanv/, http://www.vegsource.com/recipes, or http://www.madcowboy.com/02_VegRecipes.html. Other ideas: Subscribe to some vegetarian magazines, such as Vegetarian Family and Child, Vegetarian Journal, Vegetarian Times, or Veggie Life. Buy vegetarian cookbooks. Join a local vegetarian group. You can start with going to http://www.meetup.com and searching for " vegetarian " or " vegan. Guest guest
Some excellent suggestions from Maida! Perhaps you would also like to look in our Links - under Recipe Sites for those recipe sites appropriate to the theme of this group - ie 'slimming' ;=) As a matter of fact, don't stop there! Look at the other folders in Links - there's a wealth of information represented by those urls! Best, Pat
