Oh poor darling - what an awful dilemma - you want to get slim, you need to do so and you're trying to do it (and succeeding - good for you!) but at the same time you are worrying about excess skin after you lose weight. That's sad - and won't make you feel good about yourself right now - or at least not as good as you would feel if you weren't concerned for the tummy tuck. You know, I could be way off base here - but it's easier when you are young, you know. The skin *does* come back especially when you lose slowly and steadily instead of all at once. It may take a while, but it slowly improves and then you'd be surprised (I hope) that you ever contemplated needing surgery for it. I have lost weight in the recent (as the world turns) past - quite a bit of it in fact - and I didn't need a tummy tuck. At first things were rather looser than I thought appropriate LOL but after a few months they started looking better and a couple of years down the track you would not have known that I'd shed a lot of weight. Of course, people are different, and you may not be as lucky, but don't worry about it until you have to, okay? ;=) >I still have a long way to go. I figure at this > rate it will take me about a year to loose enough for the surgery. It will > take me that long to save up the money for it too. I'm hoping you'll be able to use those savings for something really really nice for yourself instead! Keep up the good work - you're doing great! Best, Pat ;=)
Guest guest
I have been overweight for over 10 years and the skin is badly stretched out especially after two children and numerous abdominal surgeries. I will wait several months after the weight is off. Most reputable doctors will not touch a patient till after they reach their goal weight and keep it off for 6 months. This will be a long and hard decision. Good to hear your skin tightened up again. I am hopeful as well. Guest guest
I know, I am not you and vice-versa - and everyone's body does not act the same. It'd be soooo convenient if it did because we'd all know what to expect all the time. Anyway, as I say, I thought that perhaps being young you might have good luck with the stretched skin thing. (I was 60 when I lost my last bunch of weight, and I wasn't hopeful about the skin, but I was lucky.) Anyway, keeping my fingers crossed for you ;=) Whatever happens, you will be the healthier for it I'm sure. Best love, Pat ;=) > I have been overweight for over 10 years and the skin is badly stretched out > especially after two children and numerous abdominal surgeries. Guest guest
Wow 60 I am impressed. I am 36 and have been overweight since I was about 20. at first I only needed to loose about 50 pounds but then I crept up another 50 pounds. It is coming off but slowly. Maybe loosing it slower will allow the skin to regenerate as well. May I ask how much overweight you were and for how long? I hate to ask but you can always refuse to answer. I don't want to put you on the spot. Guest guest
> Wow 60 I am impressed. :=) Yeah, well that was a while back LOL >I am 36 and have been overweight since I was about > 20. I was right - young! ;=) >May I ask how much overweight > you were and for how long? I hate to ask but you can always refuse to > answer. I don't want to put you on the spot. LOL It's okay. I started this, not you, and you deserve an answer ;=) I was about 65 pounds overweight and it had been creeping (well, galloping full tilt) on for some time, since the mid-80s. In 2001 I lost 45 or so pounds, bounced around a little, then stabilized there for the next couple of years. I'm still about twenty pounds overweight - because I had a nasty accident last year and . . . (always an excuse, isn't there! siggghhhh.) . . .and I have just lost the extra weight I gained then (4 kg). The last twenty pounds I needed to lose back in 2001 were stubborn so I gave them a reprieve, but their time is now up - they have been warned. So you see you have had a more dramatic weight loss by far - I am very impressed! ;=) Best love, Pat ;=)
