Guest guest
Er, why do I have a feeling of deja vue? You know, carousel cheesecakes (love that name!), you ran this subjectline about a month back or a little more, with the same problem and had the same responses, more or less, including discussion of herbal remedies LOL Remember??? ;=) I'm sorry you are feeling so very tired. You say 'tired' and that would lead one to think that you are depressed (and you did go off your antidepressants when you 'became' a vegetarian last month) - and you say your doctor wants you to go on antidepressants again. I take it you are still unwilling to do so because you fear they will make you gain weight? (Well, I think that was your worry a few weeks ago.) I can understand that, after all your hard work to lose - and your great success. It would mean a slower weight loss and careful diet management :=( But there are a couple of things here that I want to question, okay? You say you had more energy when you were still eating meat and dairy. I think, from that comment, that you are still believing that your tiredness comes from not taking in enough protein. It's sounding as if you were on one of those high protein diets before January, am I right? (It also suggests that you in some way feel a vegan diet is unhealthy *for you*. The mind is very accomodating.) Also, you say you do eat carbohydrates in the fruits and vegetables you eat and that you bake wholegrain bread. Good. Carbohydrates are splendid for energy! And btw great for the nerves too, if you're feeling down - you know that. Are you taking in enough complex carbohydrates?? Just a thought. Because if you were on a high protein diet previously your concept of 'enough' complex carbohydrates might differ from what is healthy. I note that you say that the major part of your diet is made up of green vegetables. You also mention feeling exhausted after five minutes of exercise and feeling you have to collapse. Perhaps gentler exercise? Walking is a good exercise, for example. How long can you keep that up, at a steady (not 'racing') pace? Other gentler exercises might be in order until your have lost some more weight and until your feeling of tiredness diminishes. (I am noting that your doctor could find nothing wrong with you after a batch of tests, so I am assuming there is no obvious medical condition.) I think you have had some very sensible suggestions from the group about diet and drinking enough water. Dehydration is the pits - and dangerous. You'll see I've changed the subject line a little, btw LOL I hate to think of you going around saying to yourself that you must be doing something wrong! Expecially when you are obviously trying to do everything right!!! Best love, Pat ;=)
Guest guest
Thanks for the response. It has been a couple of years since I have needed antidepressants. I do not miss the protein. Every once in a while I will crave it then I will just increase my protein in other ways. I can walk but not much. I do clean my house often as I have a very sloppy 5 year old and it will take more energy trying to make her clean up then me doing it. I Know she still needs to do it herself but it is partly my fault for letting her have so many toys so I have given many away. I do sleep better now but I think many of my symptoms are in the way of depression. But exercise does wear me out quickly. I am getting some chest pains that I think are digestive related. I have had heart tests and everything looks fine. Last night all I wanted to do was eat. My body must have been looking for something and when I finally figured out it wanted some fat I ate an avocado. Yummy. But before that I had eaten too much food and went to bed with those same chest pressures. Too much food in the belly. Good grief. I know the antidepressants I am back on is also an appetite suppressant. This should prove interesting. I will need to keep a food diary to be sure I am eating enough. I am doing a cleansing diet again right now as I have been having some very irregular bowel movements. My diet is consistent so something else is changing in there. Much of this may just be my body's way of healing after all of the unhealthy foods I have been putting into it over the years. I thought I was eating right with the South Beach diet but it just wasn't right for me. My cysts have shrunk that were on my ovaries which means my hormones have improved and I thank the meatless and dairy free diet for that. Perhaps it is just the hormone changes who knows but I am definitely suffering from depression again. So it is back to those awful pills again. I have tried many natural remedies with no luck and only one prescription pill has ever worked for me. Good old Prozac. I should be driving you all crazy within a couple of weeks with my bubbly self. Sorry about the Carousel Cheesecakes name. I have had this screen name for years am not giving it up. I love carousels and my husband makes the best cheesecakes ever. Too bad I don't eat them. I don't miss them either. We also sell them to small restaurants. So the name is actually the name of our small bakery and I wonder why I hate donuts. Guest guest
Hi ;=) Good to hear from you so soon! Okay, first, don't ever apologize for 'carousel cheesecakes' - I think it's a great name! I love it!!! I too am in love with carousels (not to ride on, not any more LOL) but to look at and as an image in my mind. Even so-called 'bad' images of carousels (as in Hitchcock's 'Strangers on a Train') don't turn me against the idea! And cheesecakes? Oh, that's a pretty image too! Yes, I thought maybe that was the name of your bakery - should be a lucky name for it! Okay, so it's back on the ol Prozac, is it? Well, I have heard it's an appetite suppressant - and sometimes affects bowel function (which might be the kind of problem you're having?) a little. Soooo, you're warning us, eh? Gonna be back to bubbly you??? That'll be great! LOL I like that. No one likes being depressed. Okay, about the walking, I'd say do a little, always bearing in mind that you have to get back from where you've walked *to*, without overdoing it for now. As for your housework, that's a neverending job, of course - don't punish yourself for being tired by making yourself unhappy about what you can't always do. It'll all come right in time. Honest! And no it is *not* repeat *not* all your fault that your 5 yr old makes a mess or that you have given her so many toys ;=) That's 5 yr olds. It's a wonder you can see the floor with a five yr old around the house LOL Relax, mommie, you're doing great. I'm pleased you're sleeping better - lying awake at night is no good at all. All kinds of thoughts come out of the darkness around three o'clock in the morning that have no business in anyone's mind :=( So a couple of weeks or so, eh? ;=) Well, as I say, we are warned! LOL Good luck with it - I'd love to see you bubbly and happy again! Big hugs. Best love, Pat ;=)
Guest guest
I often wonder if the drug makes me too happy. I am worried about the sexual side effects. The first time I was on it I couldn't get enough. My doctor did not believe me but my worn out husband told him to believe it. LOL. I hope to have the same effects again. So does my husband. However it I get the opposite effect which has also happened anyone have any herbal or good food knowledge about it? Guest guest
If you're back on the Prozac, could that be contributing to your feelings of being tired? I know depression has that effect also, but when my husband went on Prozac, until his body adjusted to it, he was way tired and sleepy. Just a thought. Guest guest
Probably not, then. I didn't say it was a good thought, just a thought. ;o) God's Peace, Gayle - Carousel Cheesecakes Tuesday, February 22, 2005 4:12 PM RE: Re: Tired while losing weight / was I'm tired what am I doing wrong?
