Guest guest
> I was on it for months and lost a lot of weight. <<That's good that you lost weight - congratulations! - but there must be easier ways - or perhaps you were doing the non-vegetarian version. I mention that because a while ago someone (who?) on this list said that they had been told it was very difficult to do the South Beach Diet as a vegetarian - or was that as a vegan? Well, there's also supposed to be a veggie version of the dreaded Atkins diet, but I can't imagine that it would work any miracles. Me, I don't think my bod would like to do without its complex carbs. I'm getting quity nutty (hah!) about that. Best, Pat>> The key word Pat, was, Lost - past tense - I have long since gained all of the 55 lost - back - I gained 45. I started the Fit for Life book - this month and have been back vegetarian since March. I was for 5 years - but kept gaining so returned to meat... for about a year and a half - thus entered the South Beach... I don't feel good eating animals at all - it doesn't ethically agree with me - nor does my body feel good ... even on the South Beach - I mostly ate tofu - and eggs for my protein. I see now that I have eaten more grains than is necessary ... I have lost 9 pounds since June 1st and am pleased with that. I plan on weighing myself just once a month on the 1st - otherwise I get obsessed with it. I just want to eat healthy and be healthy. Fit for Life authors Harvey and Marilyn Diamond say your body will find it's right weight - so I'm trusting that while I am gradually doing their plan. They suggest fruit in the morning until noon to honor the bodies natural elimination cycle time - that is the one change I have stuck to so far. They also are mindful of how we combine our foods. They have a site. www.fitforlife.com FIT FOR LIFE ONLINE WELLNESS CENTER MAIN PAGE Louise

That was me, I tried the vegetarian version of South Beach. I was following it completely and was not losing weight but was losing energy. I called the support line and the woman from South Beach told me it is difficult for veg etarians to do their diet. So I just quit then. Guest guest
> The key word Pat, was, Lost - past tense - I have long since gained all of > the 55 lost - back - I gained 45. Whoops, sorry - I'm a bit distracted this month (this year? this decade??) but I do now remember. Apologies for the confusion. >I started the Fit for Life book - this month > and have been back vegetarian since March. Okay, good for you - you must feel good about that change back to what for you is 'normal', eh? > I was for 5 years - but kept > gaining so returned to meat... Isn't it odd how that can happen. Such is the force of the propaganda about the SAD that many of us feel we have to 'make up for meat' with too much of the wrong thing and *then* somehow change back to meat to lose weight. It's the reduced calories that do it, of course, not the poor meat. >I don't feel good eating animals at all - it doesn't ethically > agree with me - nor does my body feel good ... even on the South Beach - I mostly > ate tofu - and eggs for my protein. Funny about that too - after a while our bodies declare that they really don't want that unnecessary animal protein and tell us that there's lots of good protein in grains and vegetables - as well as reminding us that it's not all about protein! > I see now that I have eaten more grains than is necessary ... That can happen. > I have lost 9 > pounds since June 1st and am pleased with that. Wonderful! - So can I congratulate you again? Good for you! > www.fitforlife.com Haven't look at this diet for a while - shall check out the page now.. . . < opening new window and checking> Okay, seen that, and if you have the book and it is working for you then I'm not in a position to comment. But I do worry about the price - $599.95 Canadian is a lotta moola in their pockets - and I do worry about so-called genetic testing. It's pretty easy to tell if you have a low or high metabolism by counting your calories for a few weeks and seeing if you gain, lose or stay the same. As they say, burn more than you eat, you lost; burn less than you eat, you gain. However, I'm sure there's more to it than that and I am rather weary already today at only 0910 because I have been overextending myself this last week. Well, good luck with it all - a system that lets you lose weight without compromising your health or your principles is a good thing - and this one seems to be filling that requirement for you. I like clever marketing of 'Fit For Life' name, btw, and the idea that it is not a 'weight loss' but a Weight Management programme - clever PR. But it is of course PR, since it all means the same thing LOL Keep us up to date on how it's going for you! Anyone else on a diet programme other than the low cal / low fat one most of us follow? (Non-vegetarian diets best not discussed to praise on this list, however.) Pat

Thanks for writing in. Yes, I looked at the South Beach diet out of curiosity some time ago and recall that it looked as if it would be a bummer for vegetarians and near impossible for vegans. It's often the way. Trouble is, there's not magic bullet, is there? How're you doing right now?? Best love, Pat
