Guest guest
I know there are a lot of parents on these lists who have children with Celiac. I wanted to share with you what I did this year for my daughters 9th birthday. We made the carrot cake that I posted earlier. Then we had two options. At Rays food store we can take our cake in and let them decorate it.. but that cost money and I have to double check there ingredients, and there is still a chance that in there kitchen full of flour, that the cake could become contaminated. So we chose option two. We went to the store and bought Cream cheese frosting.. which had no dairy or wheat ( but a ton of junk products.. but for one day we over looked this) and then we bought a few different colored Dek a Cake Writitng Gel, also no wheat or dairy ( but a ton of junk.. again over looked for one day). When we got home I iced the cake with the white cream cheese frosting and let my daughter decorate her own cake. She did a great job.. grass, flowers, sun, rainbow and a girl to represent herself. I share this with you because this is the first year my daughter did not feel strange or different from other kids. She loved decorating her cake and everyone told her what a great job she did... it made her so happy and really raised her self confedence. My son who will be turning 6 next month, instead of whinning for a store bought cake that he can not have, is so excited to be able to decorate his very own cake. Guest guest
Speaking of birthday cakes.....my 4 year old is turning 5 next month. Does anyone else here have gf vegan cakes that come out like real cake? I have yet to find one that he is thrilled with. Thanks, Tracy
Guest guest
Amy, this is a lovely idea! Much better than any store-bought cake! What fun to have the children decorate their own birthday cake. A new family tradition. Did you take a picture? You could take a yearly picture of " their cake " and keep it in a birthday album. Thanks for sharing this! LaDonna

Guest guest
Dear Tracy, That has been our problem too.. That is why the carrot cake was so surpriseing..because it tasted like real cake. Also we like the chocolete cake posted on our site.. that is a good one too. But I have not had any success with anything else.. we have had our BIG shares of disappointments here. Good luck, Amy faytk wrote: > Speaking of birthday cakes.....my 4 year old is turning 5 next month. Does > anyone else here have gf vegan cakes that come out like real cake? Guest guest
Hi Tracy, I agree with Amy that the chocolate cake recipe in our archives is very good. I made it for a household of teen-agers once and they all enjoyed it (ate it up). They were surprised it was " special food " . Success to you! LaDonna Dear Tracy, That has been our problem too.. Guest guest
Thanks Amy, Every year I tell myself that I am going to perfect it by next year but then it never happens. I will keep trying and looking! Tracy > Dear Tracy, > > That has been our problem too.. That is why the carrot cake was so > surpriseing..because it tasted like real cake. Guest guest
Thanks LaDonna, I will have to check it out again. I thought I tried before to get to the archives but couldn't do it. Is there a link you could give me to point me in the right direction? Thanks, Tracy > Hi Tracy, > > I agree with Amy that the chocolate cake recipe in our archives is very > good.
