Carob chips?

Hi all,

I have been searching for carob chips to use for baking, and haven't been

able to find any that are vegan and GF. The sweetened ones have barley malt

in them, and the unsweetened ones have milk power, etc. Is there a source

online that you use? I have searched several HFS, and haven't had any luck.

I like chocolate, and don't have a problem with using chocolate chips, it's

just that I really like carob as well, and I miss having carob-chip cookies,

etc.

Thanks for any help!

Blessings,

Christine

Christine,

Awhile back you mentioned difficulty finding carob chips that are both

gluten (barley) and/or dairy free. I don't think you received a response

from anyone on . I believe in the past I have found

some that are acceptable, but don't have a label to give more information.

I will check at the health food store next time I go. I am posting several

recipes today that call for carob chips. If you cannot find gluten

free/dairy free carob chips, but are able to find acceptable chocolate

chips, they can be used interchangably in these recipes.

Hi LaDonna,

Thanks for your reply. This is what I've been doing, just substituting with

chocolate chips. I really miss the carob chips, though, and wish I could find

some that were vegan/GF. I've searched al over the Internet, and at various

HFS, to no avail. I don't know what other people are using for carob chips,

but it must be a miracle if they were able to find vegan/GF ones :)

What is not GF about carob chips? I thought it was just carob and oil?

While on the subject, does any body know how to have oil-free carob chips? I get

all my fats from un-processed foods, and I do not believe in eating oil. It is a

problem for chocolate-chip cookies. :(

Also I object to the alcohol in some brands, so i would like it if some one

could tell me a recipe for oil-free chips? Thank you for any help.
