For example, has 5,439 interest groups concerning politics. Feel free to to all of them! Several of us are already d to some other groups in addition to . My inbox does bulge. So, to as many groups as you like, but as a courtesy to others, please stay on-topic in your postings to each group. This year is an election year, and a lot of people want to express themselves, very legitimately. Please find the right forum. By the way, the invitation to the Hoo Tza Tza concert has definite SBVS connections (the coordinator of the concert is an SBVS member, and a $7 discount is being offered to all SBVS members). -- Mike Diane E Harrison [dianeliz] Tuesday, January 27, 2004 7:23 AM Re: Shoshana's emails It seemed interesting to me that a message from Shoshana banning political messages arrived at the same time as a message promoting a musical concert at a religious organization. While it's great that members are involved in events outside vegetarianism, i.e. politics, the arts, religion, etc., all of them are no more and no less relevant to this list. So, if you ban one type of non-vegetarian message, you should ban them all. Similarly, if you allow some people to promote events unrelated to vegetarianism, other list members should be given the same privilege. (Spam, and we all know what that is, is never acceptable.) Thanks for your message. I've already sent a message to Jakub requesting that he no longer post any kind of political messages to the list, as they are indeed inappropriate. If he continues to do this, we will have to remove him from the list. Take care, Shoshana (A list moderator) - I do not believe that the distribution list for South Bay Veggies should be exploited for dissemination of unsolicited political messages unrelated to vegetarianism or nutrition or animal rights. My email inbox has too much unsolicited mail as it is and does not need more. I would like to see such messages stopped. Where are we going as a nation? What's the plan for fixing health care? What's the plan for getting out of Iraq? What's the plan for stopping the loss of high quality manufacturing jobs, and now even service and professional positions? What's the plan for stopping the flood of red ink from irresponsible tax cuts? Together, we can do better. It's a New Year -- time for a new start. We need your help. Guest guest
I'm not happy with short sighted ideas like " If you don't like it here, go somewhere else!! " For those old enough to remember, that's just like the 70s antiwar slogan, " America, love it or leave it! " Sadly, neither rant resolves the issues faced in a community. Clearly, some are quite content with this group remaining a cyber clone of Pleasantville. Maybe today's trickle of speaking out will become a flood. Guest guest
OK folks. How about cutting Shoshana some slack. As the moderator of another I can tell you that, as a moderator, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Some folks will leave a listserve if its posts are off-topic because that's not what they signed up for or want. Other folks will leave a listserve if it tries to stay on topic and won't accept way off topic posts. A group moderator is caught between the rock and the hard place. If the intent or effects of Shoshana's actions were at all prejudicial, (as on another local I can think of), I'd be upset too. But, she's certainly not showing any bias in trying to run the group in a way that everyone can enjoy. She's just trying to keep the group alive and avoid drop-offs, thus helping to spread the vegetarian message. How about showing some appreciation for her best efforts to do an impossible job. Each of us would want no less.
