PLOT: In an abandoned Beijing Opera house a celebrated

Chinese-American novelist finds absorbing inspiration

for her next work. The ancient stalls and stages

gradually reveal the secrets of a revered opera diva

and the apprentice who denounces him during the

turbulent days of China’s Cultural Revolution.

Astonishing and intense, this intimate epic weaves

personal, historical, and artistic threads into a

brilliantly theatrical tapestry. Broadway’s Francis

Jue, star of TheatreWorks’ M. Butterfly, returns as a

majestic master of the Beijing Opera.
