Guest guest
Maybe have more vegan nights in South Bay too. I've been told I should live in a co-housing. Unless it's a vegan co-housing (rare), I will not join, cause why should I pay for community food: which is mostly meat, cheese and dairy products? And costs the most $$$!! Anyway, co-housing sounds good but dealing and sharing money and work with a bunch of people is easier said than done.... But it's bettet than not having a community. , " sunny_outdoors " <sunny_outdoors wrote: Moses, the organizer, wrote he'll try to be more vegan! Wow, we did it. I'd love to be more of a vegan, but it's a struggle, so I'm hoping doing this once a month will be the way to fall in love with my inner veganitude. Posted by winnie info [info] Friday, July 31, 2009 6:04 PM frugalfoodies [frugalfoodies] August at Frugal Foodies Here's what's coming up at Frugal Foodies in August, a month that promises to be very popular and full of sold-out nights (and the first Tuesday of the month is already sold out, and has been for a little while). But before telling you about what might be coming up in your culinary future, here are a few other announcements: .... The Frugal Foodies blog is finally started. It's nothing special but people have been asking me about it for years and years. You can access it through www.frugalfoodies.org, or directly at www.meeteatandbefrugal.blogspot.com. .... Our WebFood night, which each month featured recipes from a different food website, was a total flop, and so it's being canceled. I think that we had 4-5 canceled nights for the one that had enough registrants. So, the people have spoken and that idea is going into the dumpster, at least until there's some demand for it. In it's place, we're going to try doing a monthly vegan night. I hope that this pushes me to love vegan cooking, because I've long been a skeptic, and I hope that each month this night can be built on recipes and menus submitted by real life vegans. .... If you're on this list and you'd like off of it, you may do so at http://npogroups.org/lists/sigrequest/frugalfoodies, or put yourself on it at http://npogroups.org/lists//frugalfoodies. .... This calendar has no information about the amazing things happening in San Jose, but Frugal Foodies in the South Bay is alive and well. You can see what they're up to at http://frugalfoodies.oddren.com/ and contact them about getting on their email list. As for Frugal Foodies in Berkeley, Here's what's on the calendar: Tuesday, August 4th-I'm pre-promoting this night because I'm very excited about this first-ever event. For our August theme night, we're going to do a Fresh-from-the-Garden night at Frugal Foodies. Several Frugal Foodies folks have offered lots of fresh fruit and veggies from their garden, and we're going to build an entire menu around the summer bounty. Can't tell you exactly what will be on the menu, but it's guaranteed to be fresh and ripe. It's also going to be a benefit night for the Zion Project (http://www.zionproject.org/), a group that I photographed with in East Africa, and which is doing amazing work with sexually vulnerable women. Please take a look at www.frugalfoodies.org/benefit to learn more about how such nights work. This promises to be quite a night at FF, as I know you'll love the food and the work of the Zion Project. Tuesday, August 11th-Vegan Alert! Vegan Alert! We've always had lots of demand for vegan nights at Frugal Foodies so it's now going to become a monthly thing. In future months, I'm hoping that the menu will be guest-driven, or at least gues-submitted. I'd love to be more of a vegan, but it's a struggle, so I'm hoping doing this once a month will be the way to fall in love with my inner veganitude. Tuesday, August 18th-this will be a great Guest Chef night with crowd favorite, Jennie Chuang, at the helm. Jennie was the first-ever guest chef at Frugal Foodies, way back in June, 2005, and she's always creative, inspirational, loving, and supportive, even of the most fumbling of cooks. She's not yet told me what she'll be doing for her 2009 night but if her past nights are any indication, it's going to be wonderful, so sign up early and often. This night will also be a benefit night for DiversityWorks, and you can learn more about this great nonprofit at www.diversityworks.org. Please be sure to read www.frugalfoodies.org/benefit to learn how these nights work. Tuesday, August 25th-we've had some nice success the last couple of months with our Special Guest Ingredient Night, and August should be no exception. In August, we'll feature the lovely tomato as our special ingredient, meaning that every dish, appetizer to dessert will be tomatolicious. I'm not sure what a tomato dessert looks like, but we'll come up with something, along with a very diverse menu which honors but does not exhaust the tomato, and all of us who will be making and eating it. Please remember that you must pre-register for all Frugal Foodies nights, and may do so by replying to this email or by sending a note to info __________ You received this message as a r on the list: frugalfoodies To be removed from the list, send any message to: frugalfoodies- For all list information and functions, see: http://npogroups.org/lists/info/frugalfoodies Forwarded post by winnie --- End forwarded message ---
