[frugalfoodies] September at Frugal Foodies

Here's what's coming up at Frugal Foodies in Berkeley in September, along

with a bonus event for a local nonprofit that I hope you'll check out. It's

all guaranteed to be outstanding.

Please also note that you'll find information about subscribing and

unsubscribing at the bottom of this email. It's all self-service now. I'm

also keeping a blog with the recipes and my impressions, which you can

access via www.frugalfoodies.org or directly at

www.MeetEatAndBeFrugal.blogspot.com.

Here's what's on the calendar:

Tuesday, September 1st-it's our Theme Night at Frugal Foodies and this

month's title is " It's a Wrap " . So, as you can imagine, we'll be preparing

only dishes that involve rolling and wrapping and hiding foods within other

foods. But since it's always vegetarian, you need not worry about melons

wrapped in prosciutto, so instead, we'll feature the likes of aram

sandwiches, phyllo dough creations, and spring rolls. I think that it will

be a really outstanding menu, especially with all of the wonderful food

that's in season.

Tuesday, September 8th-we're now doing vegan nights on the second Tuesday of

every month and our first go at it last month was quite successful. I look

forward to expanding my palate and we'll do exactly that on this night as we

cook up all things animal-friendly and indigestion-free, or at least that's

what I'm hoping.

Tuesday, September 15th-I'm actually out of town for Fotomio work in Las

Vegas on this night so I'm sorry to say that we won't be having a Guest Chef

Night in September. But on the bright side, it's my first time ever to

Vegas and my friends are taking bets as to whether I'll absolutely love it

or hate it (they're pretty certain that it won't be anything in between). I

do wonder if I'll be able to find anything to eat there that's healthy,

veggie, and frugal, and I am willing to compromise the healthy part for a

few days. In any case, no Frugal Foodies on this night!

Tuesday, September 22nd-it's our Special Guest Ingredient Night at Frugal

Foodies and this night will be dedicated to melons. Melons have been

bursting with flavor of late and I hope that they will still be in season

four weeks from now. Assuming they are, we'll do lots of fun things with

them as we integrate them into all of the dishes from appetizer through

dessert.

Tuesday, September 29th-it's a rare fifth Tuesday so we're going to bring

back Iron Chef Night, which was a huge hit last year. You'll likely be

broken into three teams with each team of 4-6 people creating 2-3 dishes

over the course of 75 minutes and then be judged on creativity, taste, and

presentation. Promises to raise the chaos level even a tad higher, but if

last year was any indication, the food will be great and the competition

will be fierce.

Please remember that you must pre-register for any and all Frugal Foodies

events and may do so by replying to this email.

Bonus Event-DiversityWorks will be holding its fourth annual Trivia Night on

Sunday, September 20th, from 5:30-8:30PM. Unlike all other trivia nights

and SO MUCH BETTER, DiversityWorks trivia nights are not focused on the

obtuse stuff that you care nothing about. It's team trivia (though you

don't need to have a team) and it's either about things that do/should

matter to you or things that will make you the most interesting person in

the room at your next cocktail party. It's a benefit event with a suggested

donation of $10-10,000 (nobody turned away for lack of funds) and there will

be finger foods and some booze, and just altogether a good time. So mark

your calendars for Sunday, September 20th, 5:30-8:30PM at 800 Heinz Ave #14

in Berkeley, and you can send a note to moses for more

info or to be put on the Evite. Don't miss it!
