That's absolutely true! It's amazing how much television the average American watches, if you take the time to total it up. Television has its place, but it probably contributes to boredom since people (esp. kids) get used to being entertained rather than entertaining themselves. I don't watch much now, usually just a few programs on the discovery channel, and I'm never half as bored as I was as a teen when I watched the telly all the time! It seems like it just sucks up all your time before you realize it.

Hi Rosanne,

I, too, don't watch any TV or listen to radio. I have incredible amounts of time. I work twelve hour days and still have time for the Internet. And without TV, my mind is incredibly active and clear. Life without telly does make a big difference.

In Health ... Werner.

----

I keep threatening to throw the telly out to try and make more timebut just can't face life without the occasional dose - even though Idon't watch it much. Funny how all the people on soaps never watch telly though - too bust having lives. After not having telly I hated it when we finally did get it - it is so slow. Radio you have to do something else as well and reading is much faster. It took months to adapt to the slooow tv pace. It was really weird. Unless you've been without it for a long time I don't think you could possibly apreciate how mind numbingly slow it is.rosanneTo send an email to -

How much telly does the average person watch, I wonder?

I watch new Buffy's (and the occasional older ones when too tired to do anything), Angel and new Stargates and X Files. It sounds a lot, but it's only a few hours per week. Other times I listen to Total Rock radio (although it's been off the air two days), or Just A Minute or John Peel's Saturday morning programme on radio 4.

I don't know for sure, but my husband watches four to five hours per day if I don't suggest something else for him to do! He does turn it off if I come up with anything even mildly interesting, though. My younger sister (age 10) parks herself in front of the telly when she gets home from school and doesn't budge until dinner, then again until bedtime. I'd guess that most people watch at least three hours per day. I'm falling behind...I've only watched two shows this week!

Why does it seem everybody except me likes that John Peel programme.

I really really hate it. Proves even old rockers turn into twee old

codgers. Aargh! It remind of those weird old women mags - People's

Friend or the " amusing " letters page in Womans Own - anecdotes in

Readers Digest - My radio gets snapped straight off but nobody else

has ever agreed with me...yet

Hi Peter,

I like John Peel the rest of the time, it's just that dire R4

programme on Sat am.

>

> I say - I'm not even 30, and I like John Peel :-)

I love his very strange rock in the middle of the night on

the world service. But Charlie Gillet (spelling?) and his world music

programme is even better for insomniacs. Some of the stuff he plays

is stunning but I always fall asleep and forget what it was I enjoyed

so much.

Mr Moderator, I am me, I'm not one of them naughty vegans in

disguise. But I am about to go mental cos my posts don't appear for

hours. Kind of difficult to join in the conversation when you're stuck

in a time warp all on your own. Please let me play.

Promise I won't mention c*ts.

Apologies about that - you joined at the time when it had got a little bit

hectic! I have taken you off moderation now. Just so you understand - all

new members are automatically moderated - I normally remove the moderation

after a couple of posts, but because of all the stuff going on over the last

few days, I just forgot - sorry.
