In June of this year decided to become a vegan. My reasons for doing so were to do with animal welfare. I don't know why I didn't do it sooner!. I am married with one son (who is married now). My husband isn't a vegetarian, but he respects my choice. We obviously eat veggie at home, so you could say he is part of the way there - perhaps one day. There are no other veggies within my whole family I am the " only one " so it is nice to chat with others who share my beliefs. My friends are all 'meat eaters' they also respect my choice. We have discussions sometimes about being veggie. I think one of my friends seems to be getting interested in being a vegetarian - we shall see!! I am never confrontational with my beliefs. I have to remind myself that some years back I was also someone who eat meat (unfortunately). I know better now :-). As a child like most people I was brought up in a " meat eating family " . I am the only one in our family (I have one brother and one sister) who has chosen Not to eat meat. Watching various programmes on tv and listening to discussions on the radio about animals and the terrible way of life they had to endure " For Us " I just thought this cannot be right. So it was then I made my decision to become a vegetarian and now, for me it had to be my next step, becoming a vegan. Well fraggle I have gone on bit haven't I!! I do get on my soap box sometimes. I had better get off now!! :-) Geraldine

Firstly, to further introduce myself. I have been a vegetarian since 1994. In June of this year I became a vegan. I don't know why I didn't do it sooner oh well!! I am married with one son (who is married now. My husband isn't a vegetarian but he respects my choice. We obviously eat veggie at home - so he is part of the way there - perhaps one day!. My family and friends are all 'meat eaters' so it is nice to be able to chat with other like minded people. With family and friends I do not believe in being confrontational with them in what I believe in. They respect my choice. I have to remind myself that years ago I was myself a 'meat eater' - I know better now!. I became a vegetarian because of programmes that I watched on tv and discussions that I listened to on the radio on animal welfare issues. I thought this cannot be right for animals to be treated this way 'For Us'. Well fraggle I think the above was all that I put in the first reply! and I think its time for me to get off my soap box now lol!! I have replied to you before but pressed the wrong button and lost it!! I have been a vegetarian since 1994 and in June of this year I became a vegan. I had watched programmes on tv and listened to discussions on the radio on animal welfare issues and decided that I couldn't be a part of any animals being used in this way " for me " I am married with one son (who is married). My husband isn't vegetarian but at home we obviously eat veggie - so I suppose he is part of the way there - perhaps one day oh well! He does support me in my beliefs. I am the only person in my family and amongst my friends, who is a vegan, so it is nice to be able to chat with other like minded people. I am not confrontational with others - family or friends. I remind myself often that I also eat meat years ago. I know better now. I have many discussions with my friends on being a vegan. I am asked information often on animal issues, diet etc. You never know I might convert someone yet lol!! Anyway, time to get off my soap box now!! Guest guest
Hi Geraldine > I have replied to you before but pressed the wrong button and lost it!! Actually - it's to do with the list settings. Due to events in the past, all new members are automatically on moderated status. This means that the moderator (i.e. me!) has to approve messages before they go to the list - so the messages you sent were waiting in the queue until I got to them a few moments ago. Once people have posted a couple of times, I put them on to normal status (as I have just now for you). BTW, welcome to the list! BB Peter --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Guest guest
Ah-ha! Was that why I had the confusion? I've noticed the message order problem has cleared up and my messages are arriving just after I send them now. With all that was going on about a week ago, I lost track of who was new and who wasn't, so if you joined around then, it might have been a bit longer. The only reason it's like that is because about a year ago we had a bunch of people join who thought it would be fun to stir up the vegans, talk about how much fun meat eating was, and insult everyone on the list! Needless to say they were banned, but because they were from America, they posted while I was tucked up in bed, and caused quite a problem before I even knew about it. Guest guest
Isn't that what they call 'trolling'? I'm always amazed when everyone rushes to attack someone who's obviously seeking just that reaction. You can block specific addresses on here individually, right? But I guess if there was nobody biting, there would be nobody dragging the hook! - Muffy - Peter Saturday, July 20, 2002 2:38 AM Re: Re: Just Saying Hello The only reason it's like that is because about a year ago we had a bunch of people join who thought it would be fun to stir up the vegans, talk about how much fun meat eating was, and insult everyone on the list!
