For those of us who believe in only one god, this is the one ;-) --

there are just too many names for Him/Her (some male, some female) to

list them all ;-)

Erm - which one would that be? Could you possibly narrow it down at

least to

the appropriate pantheon?

(this was meant as a means of identification, not a theological

absolute ;-)

Actually, in my belief system, it is deeds that are important, not

beliefs. Beliefs are only important as a means to an end -- the end

being, well, being a good person. If you don't believe in G-d and

live a good life, you still are " owed " an afterlife (and a good this

life too ;-) while if you do believe in G-d but live an evil life

(hurting people, killing, taking from others, etc.) then you are a

bad person and not " owed " an afterlife.

(BTW, I don't believe that G-d will strike people down if they don't

believe in any deity or they believe in multiple deities. I'm into

deeds ;-)

I just find it intriguing that there is a general assumption amongst

monotheists that everyone believes that there is only one deity.

Particularly within Judaism, which only became truly monotheistic some way

into its history, and in which at least one branch (the Qemant) is still a

monolatory. :-)

YOU are the one making assumptions. You are assuming that I think

everyone believes in one god and only one god. I make no such

assumptions. (and, if you had read what I wrote you would have

realized that.....)

What you wrote was that it G-d is a way of referring to " the one and only

deity " - I see quite an assumption there that everyone will know which deity

you are talking about.

Yes, that's right. A means of identification. Since there are so many

names this deity goes under, this was my only means of

identification. And, if you had read my post that came later, you

would have seen exactly what I meant by that.

Sorry if I'm just to trusting and naive, but it never occurred to me

that anyone would take it as anything other than a means of

identifying which deity I was talking about.
