Hi there Nikki,

I recently joined Vegan Chat and like you am new to being a vegan. I

became a vegetarian in 1994, and in June of this year decided to go

vegan (wish I had done it earlier) oh well!!

I have like you been bombarded with questions and comments. I get

asked often " what do you eat apart from nuts!! " I have found there

is a lot to eat. It is a new journey in life it seems to me, and it

feels so rewarding and complete. I am still doing lots of reading on

veganism and have found a good book in the library called " The

Realeat Encyclopedia of Vegetarian Living by Peter Cox " .

Unfortunately it is now out of print. So I am trying to search out a

copy somewhere.

It's a good road to be on isn't it Nikki!

Hi Geraldine!

My two favorite books, the first came higly recommended and I see

why, is The Food Revolution by John Robbins and The Vegan Sourcebook

by Joanne Stepaniak. Both have been extremely helpful and full of

resources.

Will see if I can find the book anywhere online fer ya. Have ya tried

ebay?

If all else fails, try the library. You may not be able to keep it,

but at least you can have it from time to time.

and yes, it is definately a wonderful road! Only sorry I did not open

my eyes sooner! :)

Take care,

Hi Nikki,

The two books you mention sound really good books. Looks like more

books to search for!! lol.

Like you Nikki I wish I had opened my eyes earlier to veganism.

Still we are both here now - better late than never, as the saying

goes.

I received my Vegan Shopper today in the post from the Vegan

Society. I am trying to get as much information as possible to help

myself along.

Good Morning!

John Robbins book was astounding! And it is written with objectives

in mind as well which quite impressed me. Because i on the other hand

would have come across much harsher! :) But I cannot take credit for

ze book as Monsieur Fraggle turned me on to it! It also has a lot of

great resources for more info in it as well. The Vegan Sourcebook i

found at the library while looking for this one. The library is my

home away from home whenever in need of info. This way I can preview

a book before I sink me hard earned cash into it and not worry. But

both of Robbins books are definately on my b-day list! :)

And I couldn't agree with you more! Better than late than never! :)

I too am searching out everything I can right now to find out what I

need to know. I have even started a recipe cd to make sure i dont

forget all the great stuff I find on all the websites adn all the

stuff people send me. I figure the more info I have the better to

make my decisions and plan ahead.

If I can help ya in anyway, let me know! But I warn ya, I don't know

much myself yet. Just the basics and my beliefs. :)

So, on another note, where's everyone from?

Hi Nikki,

I'm from Lincolnshire, in the UK. There was a fantastic thunderstorm

last night, but I was so tired I just fell asleep in the middle of

it. Oh well :)

Good Morning Geraldine!

Not a problem! Sunshine on the way. Hope you don't mind but I also

included the high of 98 degrees and some of the horrible humidity as

well! It's a package deal! :)

Actually our weather has been off and on between beautifully sunny

and then gray and rainy. But, both are wonderful fer the garden, so I

really can't complain too much!

Nikki :)

We had some rain but no storm, so we are still a bit humid here. I like

storms.

Hello

My name is Nikki, new to the group as of today. I have been a vegetarian for

about two years now, but I do not personally know of any other person who is

also vegetarian. It gets lonely being the only one not chowing on a steak. Not

that I want to. I just would like to know there are others like me out there :)

I will start collecting recipes to share!
