Guest guest
Hi Nikki, actually I think there is a rawfood group that meets regulary in Oak Lawn. And in Chicago's north side, there is a raw food restaurant called "Karyn's Fresh Corner". So there are a few raw food vegans floating around in the Chicago Area, but I feel like I'm the only one here in Dekalb. Guest guest
Hello neighbor as well! :-) You're right, it's comforting to know there are other Vegans close by. I've only been a Vegan for about 3 weeks now and sometimes it gets a little frustrating. Then I think about going back to my old ways and I realize, I never, ever could. I honestly could never put another animal product into my mouth. The mere thought of it makes me sick. Some people close to me have gone so far as to say they don't want to know why because they want to continue eating meat. I think to myself, gee, they must know there is something wrong here but they would rather play dumb and continue through life the way they always have. And that's fine because that is their choice and they are after all respecting my choice. But it saddens me the way people can just close themselves off to the truth knowing it is out there. ah well, what can ya do? Have a great day! nikki , " dmressel " <dmressel> wrote: > Hi Nikki and Werner, > > I'm also in Illinois in Chicago. Nice to hear there are other > vegans on this list that live so close by. Guest guest
Good morning! Wow! So close! But I don't just eat raw food. I cook it as well. Can you give me a little insight on that because it wasn't something I had considered. Why do you only eat it raw? Is it a health benefit or a taste preference? From what I know of DeKalb, I can't see there being much there for you either. Seems more like a small town/farming area (easy access to food?) then a bigger suburb. But I have only visited a bit of it where my customers are. nikki , " Werner " <mejda6@e...> wrote: > Hi Nikki, > actually I think there is a rawfood group that meets regulary in Oak Lawn. > And in Chicago's north side, there is a raw food restaurant called " Karyn's > Fresh Corner " . Guest guest
Hi Nikki, check out www.rawfood.com Rawfood is all about eating food in it's natural state, because lots of the nutrients are destroyed by cooking. Only two things can nourish the body ... fruits and vegetables. Most raw foodist are vegan, besides I can't imaging eating a raw fish or a raw steak. Some of the raw veggies can be kind of bland, so you can always use spices and herbs to perk things up. In the raw food movement, there are actually chefs who can come up with some fantastic creations. I still use some cooked items and sometimes a dish of steamed veggies, otherwise I would say that I eat about 95% raw foods. Just yesterday, a friend at work said that he was an old fart. I said ... wait a minute ... I'm older than you are. Yeah ... he said ... but you look much younger. I guess it must be all that raw energy .... I feel like I'm in my twenties ... not bad for my 55 years. And I can still run or race walk 10 miles on a good day ..... In Health ... Werner. ---- Thursday, August 01, 2002 4:49:42 AM Re: Hello everyone, I'm new to the list Good morning!Wow! So close! :)But I don't just eat raw food. I cook it as well. Guest guest
Hi Nikki, I forgot to add this in my last post ... Dekalb is growing in leaps and bounds. We still have NIU ... the university and with all the students, it really increases our population. Plus we have all kinds of stores and shopping centers. Feels more like a big city than a rural village. I think with the students, our population count is over 60,000. Guest guest
That's right, fergot about NIU! Can ya tell how often I get to visit the area. I like the DeKalb area for it's small town feel.
