Guest guest
Okay, I was out shopping and ran across this product called soyrizo made by a company called Melissa's (vegan), and I remembered I had read a bunch of you going on about how yummy it is...so of course I bought some to try. But see, the thing is, I don't know what to do with it. I don't even know what chorizo is so I really don't know what to do with soyrizo. Looks alot like a smushi pepperoni to me, but it is still in the package. It is a 12oz package and I would love to hear of some ideas for how I can use it in a recipe. So how do you all eat it? Thanks! ~ PT ~ *feeling adventurous* Born again?Ê No, I'm not.Ê Excuse me for getting it right the first time. ~ Dennis Miller
Guest guest
First thing, the " skin " of the Soyrizo is NOT edible; it's plastic. You snip off one end and squeeze it out of the plastic. Once it's out of the plastic, it looks a lot like taco meat, and you can use it like taco meat in tacos or in a burrito. Ovo-veggies can scramble it with eggs. I fry it up in a pan, and make veggie burritos with it. Soyrizo, veggie refried beans, avocados and tomatoes, and maybe some lettuce or sprouts, in a flour tortilla. --- ~ PT ~ <patchouli_troll wrote: > Okay, I was out shopping and ran across this product > called > soyrizo made by a company called Melissa's (vegan), > and I > remembered I had read a bunch of you going on about > how > yummy it is...so of course I bought some to try. Guest guest
I think I know the answer, does it have wheat/gluten in it? It sounds so good, but that would make me sooo sick. Sigh. Guest guest
Thanks Lori. So when you use it for tacos or veggie burritos, do you need to season it any more than it already is, or do you just leave it? Mine is still in the package right now so I cannot smell it, but to the eye it looks to be quite seasoned and maybe even spicy. ~ PT ~ God, to me, it seems, is a verb, not a noun, proper or improper. ~ R. Guest guest
Hi Donni. Here is the list of ingredients: Water, textured soy protein (caramel color), expeller pressed canola oil, white distilled vinegar (distilled from corn), seasoning blend: (spices, salt, dextrose, papriak, onion powder, garlic powder) soy protein concentrate, xanthan gum, oleoresin paprika (soy oil) I don't see wheat gluten mentioned in it, so maybe it would be safe for your dietary needs. ~ PT ~ It is in the character of very few men to honor without envy a friend who has prospered. ~ Aeschylus (525-456 BC) ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~~~~~~~> , Donni Irschick < dragonflywings@s...> wrote: > I think I know the answer, does it have wheat/gluten in it? Guest guest
I just leave it, because it's already highly spiced. :-) --- ~ PT ~ <patchouli_troll wrote: > Thanks Lori.
