They make them eat live bugs quite often, usually exotic ones that look scary or huge spiders, etc. It's a PETA nightmare and I find it gratuitous and sickening. I detest those parts of the show. The show itself is usually in three parts, with a weird stunt, gross-out eating or what ever, and another stunt at the end. The stunts are often fun and funny to watch. The gross parts are just childishly sickening. Example: Recover plastic discs, like poker chips, embedded in cow brains, as spinal fluid and brain fluid drips down. Trick is, you can use only your MOUTH. You must get TEN of these discs, and transport them orally from the brains to a plastic tray. You're being timed. Go. Truly deeply sickening, especially for a vegetarian. > and don't lots of them (pardon the > animal-prejudiced expression) chicken out? I've not seen any of them chicken out. The prize is only $50,000, too, by the way. And runners-up get nothing. That they find so many geeks willing to participate is a grotesque commentary on the humanoid primate. > > , The Stewarts <stews9@c...> > wrote: >> Ever seen FEAR FACTOR? >> >> Live first, then write. Guest guest
What blows my mind is that there are a lot of cow brain and/or spinal cord gross-outs on the show. You'd think that the producers would be afraid of possible future lawsuits stemming from Mad Cow. After all, just because the disease has never actually been FOUND in the United States . . . It's not like there is a great deal of testing for the disease going on. Mad Cow could be in the U.S. for months or perhaps even years before anyone noticed. I don't watch the show anymore. There is way too much animal abuse going on. I wrote them several letters expressing my concerns (including the Mad Cow thing, the obviously doped up alligators on another episode, the snakes and the rats that were poured on top of contestants, etc.), and they never even bothered to respond. > > Example: Recover plastic discs, like poker chips, > embedded in cow brains, > as spinal fluid and brain fluid drips down. Guest guest
Bravo to you for writing a letter of concern. I think it is worth doing even if they are never polite enough to respond. :::coffeemug salute::: ~ pt ~ The first principle is that you must not fool yourself, and you are the easiest person to fool. ~ Richard Feynman ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~~~> , Lori <mrsshf> wrote: onths or perhaps even years before anyone noticed. > > I don't watch the show anymore.
