Guest guest
do you know the person who is responsible for putting the holiday party together? if so, you could (privately) explain to them that you would really like to attend the party, but that you are vegetarian. and ask them about a vegetarian option on the menu. they might not have even considered that there are vegetarians in the company. as long as you are nice about it, i don't see why they wouldn't be able to make arrangements for a veggie meal for you. and who knows, maybe next year there will be a veggie option. i got lucky with a company that i worked for....the vice president was a vegetarian. unfortunately, the veggie options were usually just a plate of steamed veggies (often without much flavor). blech. one year they had pasta options, so that was an improvement. eventually they stopped having full meals and just had appetizers. when they started having a cash bar, i stopped going. lol. good luck, and let us know what you decide to do and what happens. susie <jigilou wrote: > So, the invitation for our annual company Holiday > Party came out and, > yet again, no vegetarian entree on the menu. Guest guest
If it is being held at a local restaurant, ask the person in charge of planning it if they would mind if you called and requested a vegetarian item as an option. I can't honestly see why they would mind if you were presenting it like you would be taking responsibility for making the arrangements. I can't imagine a vegetarian meal would cost the restaurant or catering group any more to prepare than a seafood or red meat dinner. Asking for this small bit of consideration is not making yourself a nuisance, especially if you do it in a way that shows you are willing to do the work to make it happen without accusing the planner of being neglectful. It is just a matter of polite tact and bottom line is you deserve this small consideration as a valueable employee. Guest guest
I would definitely make a stink about it. I'm sure you are not the only vegetarian in your company (unless it's very small) and it is very closed minded to not offer that selection. What if the other selections weren't edible by some other folks with strict diets? It is very easy for a kitchen to make a vegetarian dish, even if it's just for one. Guest guest
also, be sure to mention you won't eat any meat including poultry and fish, because unfortunately meat-eaters sometimes assume that a vegetarian will eat " seafood " . hopefully they won't try to stick you with just a salad or steemed veggies. , " artichoke72x " <artichoke72x> wrote: > do you know the person who is responsible for putting > the holiday party together? if so, you could > (privately) explain to them that you would really like > to attend the party, but that you are vegetarian. and > ask them about a vegetarian option on the menu. they > might not have even considered that there are > vegetarians in the company. as long as you are nice > about it, i don't see why they wouldn't be able to > make arrangements for a veggie meal for you. and who > knows, maybe next year there will be a veggie option. If not, I wouldn't go. This happens to me all the time and I always ask about it and usually they can accomodate me somehow! People really don't like it when we don't go and don't eat, so they do their best to make sure you can come! > > -K
