Guest guest
*phew* I was worried about ya! I thought maybe you'd gotten some badass scallions from Mexico of the like that made those folks in PA so sick. Good to know it was just a tofu gut lump and nothing quite so serious. ~ feral ~ " Leads her to a lowly room. Which she makes a chapel of. Where she genuflects to love. Guest guest
wow I didn't know there was a name for this vegetarian ailment " tofu gut lump " rolmfao one thing for sure if I got any of those onions I think I would rather have the heppititus than that nasty gamma gobulin shot which btw are the most painful shots known. lol stay cool, Dave
Guest guest
Really? Is that shot the only way to cure that form of hepititus? I felt so bad reading about those people that died from eating items they ordered in a restaurant chain all because they contained those green onions. I wonder how the onions were infected? Oddly I had purchased some green onions and used them in a macaroni and cheese casserole on the same day the news story broke. We were sitting at the table eating and my family asked what I put in the casserole and as I was going through the ingredients we blanched; we hoped the onions weren't of the same batch and that the cooking had killed any bad stuff off. It brought to my mind how little we can know about our food supply in this modern age where all we do is go to the super market and buy multiple items from many different places without even thinking. Last night I was in the store and out of curiousity I looked through the produce isle to see if I could tell where the food was grown. Pretty much nothing is labeled well except for some of the fruit items like apples and oranges. Kind of unsettling. I remember a few years ago we had a scare with canteloupe from Mexico and salmonila poisoning and I had to find a produce clerk to ask him if the ones in their store were from that region. He said they weren't, but still, without labels or disclosure we just cannot know. ~ feral ~ It is difficult to get the news from poems yet men die miserably every day for lack of what is found there. ~William Carlos Williams (1883-1963) ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~~~~> , " Dave " <phantombluefan> wrote: > wow I didn't know there was a name for this vegetarian ailment " tofu > gut lump " rolmfao one thing for sure if I got any of those onions I > think I would rather have the heppititus than that nasty gamma > gobulin shot which btw are the most painful shots known. lol stay > cool, Dave
Guest guest
that's a good point and it is scary. I also notice that even on orange juice it is often labeled something like " made from oranges grown in Florida or Brazil " so you can't even be sure with them. Kind of makes me want to start growing my own food. > Last night I was in the store and out of curiousity I looked > through the produce isle to see if I could tell where the food > was grown. Guest guest
I haven't heard of this Outbreak, but it sounds just terrible. Since becoming vegetarian, I've also become very concerned with the quality of my food. The more I read, the more concerned I get. I try really hard to buy organic and to read the labels. I definitely stay away from GMO and I support local companies and farmers as much as possible. Here is a great link with some wonderful information on buying local. The link may first take you to a short Flash video, which is quite funny, called The Meatrix. http://www.themeatrix.com Denise , " Feral " <terebinthus> wrote: It brought to my mind how > little we can know about our food supply in this modern > age where all we do is go to the super market and buy > multiple items from many different places without even > thinking. Guest guest
I shop mostly at Fred Meyer, which is sort of an upscale Super Wal-Mart. I believe the chain is mostly found in the Pacific Northwest. Anyway, for the past year or so, they have really started pushing local produce as much as possible, and just about everything is labeled with a source. It's pretty cool. --- Feral <terebinthus wrote: > > Last night I was in the store and out of curiousity > I looked > through the produce isle to see if I could tell > where the food > was grown. Guest guest
I love that Meatrix cartoon. My kids got a kick out of it too, and even though my family members still choose to eat some meat, they are certainly becoming more aware of where they get it and the environmental impact of certain meat industry practices. ~ PT ~ In order for something to become clean, something else must become dirty. ~ Imbesi's Law of Conservation of Filth ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~~~> , " pamperedveggie " < pamperedveggie> wrote: > I haven't heard of this Outbreak, but it sounds just terrible.
