Guest guest
Hello folks, I'm very pleased to have joined this group! It's great that the topics aren't completely run over by recipes (unlike some groups) and that there is some good discussion regarding diet, food ingredients, etc. A nice mix and balance . Anyway, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Kathy, 32, happily married and living in British Columbia, Canada. I've been a lacto-ovo- vegetarian for, oh, 13 years or so; I became veg-head out of a disgust with current factory farming practices. Oddly enough, though, my hubby will not consume a vegetable unless it's a potato or tomato! Despite his propensity to being a carnivore, we are happily together after 10+ years and cook our separate meals in relative peace. Plus I can lay a guilt trip about his eating habits if I feel so inclined... I'm not against eating animal flesh per se, if it involves raising the animal yourself in an organic, safe and humane environment and you slaughter it yourself. Of course, this rules out most North Americans' current meal situation. The general awareness of (and interest in) where our food comes from is pathetic, so ideally I'd like to see everyone be veggie and develop a real understanding for the different types of farming practices ). I'm also a wheat-free, cow's milk-free vegetarian, although I've had some lapses lately. I have a serious digestive disease and I stay away from the hard-to-digest, potentially allergenic foods where possible. Meat is easy to give up - white bread is really hard!! *grin* Oh yeah, I'm also a VERY underemployed Professional Forester, currently working at a bookstore (!), and looking for work in my rightful career field. My husband is an assistant oenologist (fancy name for wine-maker) with a BSc. in Food Science. Unfortunately, because of him, I know far more about the food industry than is healthy, but I can probably share some insight into it where possible. I look forward to participating in various ways and meeting you all! Cheers, Kathy

Guest guest
Welcome Kathy! Sounds like you and I are veggies for about the same reasons - I'm very interested in the ecological and environmental impact of current farming/ag practices. So, please do feel free to share any info! Blessings, -K , " Kathy " <treegrrl29> wrote: > I'm not against eating animal flesh per se, if it involves raising > the animal yourself in an organic, safe and humane environment and > you slaughter it yourself.
