Guest guest
Hi Sheryl, I don't actually use recipes, I do according to my mood. I do creams in small quantities since I don't put any conservative product, so I can have a diffrent one every week or every two weeks. The first thing to do is to analyse your skin type and pay attention to its sensitivity. My skin is very dry, so anything very oily and highly nutritious will beneficiate it. I have a friend with an oily skin, so obviously an oily base would not be the best. The difficult part is to be able to find a good a natural plant that suit your skin. Once you found it, you'll need to buy the raw plant or some pure butter made of it. After that, you'll be able to do very easily your own body and face moisturiser by adding a few drops of your favorite essential oils and/or nutrition oils. If the Dr Bronner Pure soaps are as good as they are advertised, then you can do the same for your shower gels and shampoos. You can also order a bag of hemp seeds, crush them and add it to your gels to make a nice face and body srub. In the same way, still with the hemp seeds or something else like abricots kernels, nuts, you can do an exfoliating cream. It's quick, easy, a good fun, and it saves you a lot of money. Here is how I did the facial mosturiser I am using at the moment: Ingredients (all organis, of course): - Shea butter (100% pure shea butter - L'occitane) - Vitamin E (Natural liquid vitamin E - 100 IU per 5 drops - Solgar) - Ho Wood essential oil - Hemp seed oil Just mix the ingredients together until you obtain a uniform anf fluid cream. The dose of each ingredient depends on your skin needs. I use more shea butter because I need high moiturisation and more hemp oil to rebalance my hormonal system. I sometimes use Evening primose oil instead of hemp oil or both at the same time. I use diffrent essential oils according to my mood or to my body needs, and it works fine. Do you need to threat something particular ? Skin problems ? PMS ? Depression ? hormonal disorders ? concentration ? ... Please, please, PLEASE don't indiscriminately add essential oils to products that you're going to be using on your skin without doing some research first. (I'm sure that Laetitia wasn't suggesting that anyone do this, but I felt a heads up was in order, regardless.) Essential oils are wonerful things, but need to be used with knowledge and care. Citrus oils, for example, are some of my favourites, but they're also known photosensitizers. Do NOT use citrus oils in anything that you plan to put on skin that will be exposed to sunlight within a few hours. It can cause significant problems. Other oils are extremely sensitizing when used topically, even if well diluted. I love wintergreen, but because the salicilates can build up in your system, I wouldn't use it topically. Cinnamon bark, while wonderful in an aromalamp, is a strong sensitizer and irritant when used on the skin. I could give you more examples, but I think you get the idea, hm? There are many essential oils that are wonderful additions to skincare products and toiletries, but it really is important to do your research before using these potent products. BTW, it's nice to be back. I've been reading off and on, but life has been too crazy to keep up with posting. I'm still around though -- Sherri at work with no .sig file
Guest guest
Hi sherria, You made a good point, and I thank you for this. I forgot to precise the obvious: Always think before you act. This means, think about what you're puting in your mouth, on your skin, on your body, in your home, on your beloved, ... Before doing anything, think it over ;o) Citrus oils are great for the skin and do smell gorgeous, but noone shall expose to the sun after that, ot the consequences might be very unpleasant. In a general view, always read carefully the notices and documentations when you buy oils. If there is no documentation, there is a strong probability, that your oil is not organic or not reliable, check it with your retailler. If there is still no documentation, the internet is here to answer your questions. You should also be carefull with what oil you buy. The organic origin is not all, some of the oil are processed using animal fats ! Jasmin and rose absolutes for instance are very often proceesed that way. Always prefer a pure oil and certified organic. Hope this will help, Lætitia ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Only after the last tree has been cut down, Only after the last river has been poisoned, Only after the last fish has been caught, Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Help the planet each day! Guest guest
Good advice and wise caution, Sherri. Nice to have you back with us; wondered where you ran off to. Busy can be a good thing and lately it would seem to be the norm what with the holidays and all. :::coffeemug salute::: ~ PT ~ Without a goal and some effort to reach it, no man can live. ~ Fyodor Mikhaylovich Dostoevsky (1821-1881) ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~> , sherria@o... wrote: Please, please, PLEASE don't indiscriminately add essential oils to products that you're going to be using on your skin without doing some research first. > (I'm sure that Laetitia wasn't suggesting that anyone do this, but I felt a heads up was in order, regardless.) > BTW, it's nice to be back.
