We *know* that we can healthier lives without meat and know that we can live happier lives without killing our fellow creatures. Thanks, but you are just as equally eloquent ). Nothing wrong with leaping into the fray and making repeatedly good comments, eh? > My dogs still have long canines (hah!) but they are healthy and happy on a vegan diet - everyone, including their vet, raves about how how well they are. How long have your dogs been vegan? I cringed when the " raw food diet " for dogs became a bit of a craze out here in LaLa Land. My former boss once thought he'd give his dog a nice treat of organic raw turkey treats, because it was such a " Kitsilano pet-owner " thing to do. The dog wolfed it down but, like most dogs, she would have eaten anything sat in front of her and I doubt she appreciated the fact it was raw meat. Just like she never refused the the vegan treats I snuck to her on a daily basis at work <*grin*>. Similarly, I always found it interesting that dogs can go vegan, but cats are unable to stay healthy on a vegan/vegetarian diet. From what I know, it's because they lack certain enzymes to synthesize specific and necessary fatty acids, and they also need a specific amino acid and vitamins that can (generally) only be sourced through animal products. Ah, the idiosyncrasies of evolution! > Centuries ago, we all ate what we could find to eat - and nothing wrong with that. Nowadays, we have choices. Amen to that ). Of course, I could start a whole new debate and wonder aloud if it really *is* good to have so much choice at the expense of food security, excessive food transportation/energy concerns, eating out-of-season and non-native foods, etc etc. But I won't - my brain is too sluggish with post-holiday lentil loaf bloat ). Guest guest
Hello again ;=) > Thanks, but you are just as equally eloquent ). Not long, actually, which is why I am still bragging about it some 14 or 15 months later ;=) It was a big step for me (and, presumabley, them). They are sooooo good on the diet!! >I cringed when the " raw food > diet " for dogs became a bit of a craze out here in LaLa Land. Not an option for me, since I was already pretty well commitred to at lest trying a vegetarian diet with my dogs. Admittedly, a hungry dog, unlike a hungry cat, will eat what's put in front of it ;=) \> The dog wolfed it down but, like most dogs, she would have > eaten anything sat in front of her . . . The adore tofu and lentils and, well, anything else they find coming across their plates ;=) > Similarly, I always found it interesting that dogs can go vegan, but > cats are unable to stay healthy on a vegan/vegetarian diet. Indeed. My (neutered) bulimic male feline still eats (siggghhh) human-grade me*t kibble. It's not possible to find veggie food for him here in London, and I prefer not to hassle it. > Of course, I could start a whole new debate and > wonder aloud if it really *is* good to have so much choice at the > expense of food security, excessive food transportation/energy > concerns, eating out-of-season and non-native foods, etc etc. But . . . Oh right. I'm with you there ;=) And don't forget; Blame Canada, etc. over the latest Mad Cow thingie. Bloody Alberta beef! Well, whatever we all - as caring vegetarians - choose to feed our companion animals, we do know tht we are probably doing the best that we can given the current info. Just as we are doing the same for ourselves and our families. Great to talk with you ;=) Best love, Pat -- SANTBROWN townhounds/ vegetarianslimming/ HOMEPAGE: http://www.angelfire.com/art/pendragon/ ---------- * " There are too many idiots in this world. This is something that somewhere disturbs me, but I have to do it too. A lovely cat honors me everyday by his visits, each time his stomac ask for it ) I always try to find the most simple meal components with as few ingredients as possible and I add a spoon of Udo Pet Essentials [http://www.healthyformulas.com/item.cfm?pid=73] to his meal. This is quite complete and contain lots of essential faty acids and nutrents that he needs. Do you think that I could give him just cereals, seeds and vegetables with the Pet Essentials added ? I am always scared that he might react in an unexpected way to a vegan diet and that it could be very bad for his teeth and eyes for instance. What do you think about it ? ----------------------------- " There's a voice that keeps on calling me. Down the road. That's where I'll always be. Oh, every stop I make, I make a new friend. Can't stay for long. Just turn around, and I'm gone again. Maybe tomorrow, I'll want to settle down. Until tomorrow, I'll just keep movin' on. So, if you want to join me for awhile, just grab your hat, and we'll travel light. That's hobo style. Maybe tomorrow, I'll want to settle down. Until tomorrow, I'll just keep movin' on. Until tomorrow, the whole world is my home. "
Guest guest
Dunno the answer to this one ;=( I once went on CompassionateGuardians to ask a form of that question but was met with silence. They are usually very helpful. Perhaps you might have better luck??? > Do you think that I could give him just cereals, seeds and vegetables > with the Pet Essentials added ? > I am always scared that he might react in an unexpected way to a vegan > diet and that it could be very bad for his teeth and eyes for instance. > > What do you think about it ? -- SANTBROWN townhounds/ vegetarianslimming/ HOMEPAGE: http://www.angelfire.com/art/pendragon/ ---------- * " There are too many idiots in this world.
